A Cake Lover’s Community

December 19th, 2008 @ 3:02 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

Partake in a hobby and chances are pretty good that an online community exists where you can learn more about your hobby, share photos and converse with others who also partake in your interest. Cake decorating is no different, and one of the best websites for icing artists is CakeCentral.com.

When gathering inspiration for your wedding cake, this site should be high on your list of places to check out. The gallery features cakes for all occasions and they are baked and decorated by everyone from expert level professionals to people like me, who are less experienced in the trade and decorate cakes just for fun.

One of my favorite features of the site is their option to view cakes in the gallery by color scheme.

The talent of those who post is incredible! There are so many great cakes and amazing, unique designs. Check out their Wedding Cake Contest gallery to view some very impressive works of edible art.

It’s pretty rare for any of the photos posted in their gallery to be taken by professionals, so with an absence of magazine photo shoot perfection and unrealistic settings, the cakes shine all on their own, giving you an idea of how it might look at an actual reception site.

If you register on the site, which is free, you are given an online folder to house pictures of your favorite cakes and you can jump into discussions in the forums.

Aside from the great inspiration photos, the site is also a good source for cake and icing recipes and advice on baking and decorating.

What are some of your favorite websites for cake inspiration?

This is such a cute idea! We didn’t have a budget for a large wedding cake but I definetly oggled some of the creative designs in the magazines!
