I’m Dreaming of a White Wedding

December 19th, 2008 @ 10:59 am by Ms Fondue

Many brides, at some point during their engagement period, will have a dream (or nightmare, usually) about their wedding day. I am no exception.

Shortly after becoming engaged, I had a dream that my parents decided to hold the wedding at this itty-bitty church in the middle of nowhere, and I didn’t know about it until the night of the rehearsal. The majority of dream was spent trying to frantically decorate the place to make it look presentable.

The only other major dream I have had about the wedding so far took place in the atrium of a hotel, where our wedding was being held. I somehow fell asleep at the table during the reception. No one bothered to wake me, so I woke up the next morning and there were all these strange people at the tables eating breakfast. My photographer was still there for some reason, and she offered to give me a 53% refund (I know, it’s a random number) since I fell asleep. I said okay, and asked where Mr. Fondue was. She gave me some general information about the direction he had gone in. I finally tracked him down (after going through a maze) and he told me he wanted the marriage annulled! Then I woke up.

Mr. Fondue told me the other day that he, too, had had a bad wedding dream.

In his, the wedding was scheduled to start in an hour, and three (out of eight) of his best men hadn’t yet shown up! The schedule was all out of whack, since they were supposed to be getting their pictures taken, and he was furious at them.

I thought it was hilarious that he was having these dreams too, as I hadn’t heard many stories about grooms having them.

What wedding nightmares have you or your significant other had during your engagement period?

oh man, I have a new one each week! In most, the wedding is like, tomorrow, and I have as much done as I have now in reality (and I am 5 months out). In one, we hadn’t booked the rentals and it was the rehearsal. My mom and I were frantically calling places tryng to get everything we needed (and we are having our wedding at a private home, so we are renting EVERYTHING). In the dream, at one point I just resigned all control to my mom and decided to have a good time. I hope I will be able to do that if something bad happens right before the wedding!

Amy, that’s funny - I have the same kind of dream! (where I’m at the wedding, and I’ve done as much as I have now). I think it’s our brain’s way of telling us to get organised!

I’m so glad that I’m not the only person with wedding dreams/nightmares!! I feel like I have one every week–always another crisis–the BM are the wrong color, the venue doesn’t have our reservations, my dress is wrong. :) And Mr. Fondue isn’t the only groom to have them. So far, my fiance has had 2 of them, too. In one, the venue required him to use their staff as his groomsmen, so he had a bunch of strangers standing up for him!

I had the same type of dream where (in the dream) I woke up and the wedding was that day! There were so many things I had left to do and none of the vendors knew what to do because I hadn’t made a schedule. I kept running into my groom before the ceremony and seeing him, although we hadn’t wanted to do that.
But you know what? Even at the end of the dream I was sitting at my reception thinking it all turned out okay. So, that part was good!

OMG, I’ve had a few…..I even had one a few days before my friend’s wedding because I was her MOH and she really DID have a huge list of stuff left to do at the last minute!

Mine usually involve my dress getting ruined in some way. I can’t remember all the details but in one of them, my dress was burned my a hair appliance (curling iron?) and for some reason, the only other option was to wear a pink t-shirt and a black jumper dress….like, smock style, cotton black jumper with pockets on the front. But, it still had a zipper that wouldn’t zip all the way at the back, so my Dad had to hold my dress shut while he walked me down the aisle. And it was in a church in my Dad’s tiny, middle of no where hometown…no offense to anyone’s religion or hometown, but that was a pretty big nightmare to me!

This is fantastic! My best one yet consisted of having two minutes to get dressed at which point my dress started FALLING APART. So I improvised and wore the top part of my dress as a shirt, put on a pair of shorts and high heels and started to head to the ceremony, only to be unable to find the aisle!! I mean, whoa. Everyone was seated in chairs and I could see my fiance but I couldn’t figure out how to get to him! Where do I even begin to analyze that one.

my fiance admitted to having a bad dream the other night that no one was dancing at the wedding and everyone left early, and he woke up sad.

ooooh all of my nightmares leading up to the wedding involved me on laundry day accidentally showing up at my wedding… I would be literally holding a laundry basket looking laundry-like with messy hair and mismatched clothes, and all of a sudden show up at my wedding - as if I forgot my own wedding date - - I also think it was cute that our best man had a nightmare about being responsible for the rings, in his dream he was so late that he ended up wearing his suit over the clothes he was already wearing…

why do we do it to ourselves? I think my reoccuring laundry dream was all about the fact that I waited until the last minute to pick out/order my dress - i hope this was a one time nightmare for you, but if not your body might be telling you to get more sleep.

I was the MOH in my sister’s wedding this past august and had a reocurring dream that I woke up the day of and didn’t write my speech yet! I was freaking out and ended up winging it and the entire reception just stared at me, in silence. It was absolutely horrible. I guess you could say those dreams kicked my butt into gear on getting it written!

We both had wedding-mares. I dremt once that Mr. PN walked down the aisle in a sweatshirt since his kilt never arrive. I also drempt that I was pregnant and due on our weddign day. I was happy about the baby but I wasn’t sure what I would do about my dress since it was possible the baby could be born before the wedding or after… Crazy!!

I had a dream there was a hurricane on my wedding day. Thankfully, it was not a prediction.

Hmm…I NEVER remember my dreams so perhaps I’ve been having tons of wedding related nightmares unbeknownst to myself…

It just shows how important it is to you AND the Mr.–which is always a good thing, no? :)

I’ve had two or three, but the most recent is by far the best.

I was getting married that day and realized we never bought the rings. So after my mom chews me out for being behind schedule, I ran around town trying to buy them when I got car-jacked in a cul-de-sac. Instead of giving the guy my car, I yelled at him that he was ruining the best day of my life and he let me go. (Go me!) Then I ran to the church and realized I didn’t have a dress. So *as* I was walking down the stairs to the chapel, my MOH was hand sewing different color fabrics onto me. I looked hideous. Think 80’s prom meets Barnum & Bailey. When I got outside the chapel, I realized that they were performing 4 ceremonies back to back and we were last. So I stood outside the chapel, not caring about my dress, the delay, and the fact my guests were mingled into the crowds of 3 other weddings. I was seriously just so excited to marry the Mr. (aww!)
