Oops, I Cut My Hair

December 19th, 2008 @ 8:29 am by Mrs. Glitter

I know most brides-to-be grow their hair in an effort to create the infamous bridal updo. As I stated in an earlier post, I am still on the fence as to whether I will wear my hair up or down. I had high hopes that my hair and I would make it until June. But the truth of the matter is that it was becoming a huge pain to dry and style. Most days, I didn’t do much in the realm of styling. I just kinda let it chill… ever so limply. Case in point, The Long and Lifeless Look.

I have kept my hair medium to long in length since high school, however, I’ve started to think… as I move into my late 20’s, I should be doing something more with it. So rather than force myself to look unfortunate for the next six months, I decided to just “trim it a little”. When I got in the stylist’s chair, I realized I wanted more than a trim. I found myself telling her to get rid of the shag… and take up the length… and layer it… and give me side swept bangs. Oh, and I colored it while I was there, too (a bit darker). Here’s what we came up with:

So yeah, oops, I cut my hair before the wedding. Shoot me!

Any of you ladies get impatient like me and reach for the scissors before your big day rather than after?

It’s gorgeous! I’m so tempted to cut mine, but it still isn’t as long as yours, post cut, so I’m going to stick with the growing out plan and hope for the best!

I’m getting married in June, and did the same thing! I chopped a good 4-5 inches off at my last hair appointment. My hair actually looks pretty similar to your new cut, and it’s plenty long for a perfect bridal ‘do!

Yup, I’m a June bride too and couldn’t take the hair anymore, so I chopped off a good 3 inches, at least. I want to wear my hair down, so I want it long, but it was so fried and dead looking. Yours looks great!

I think it looks great and still plenty long enough for any style you choose.

P.S. I LOVE those tights. Where did you get them?!

YES! I am a walking example of limp, lifeless, long hair :(

I am getting so tempted to chop off my hair, it’s nearly waist-length currently and I’ve been wearing it long for a year or two, however I was just proposed to and will be getting married in a little over a year. I want to wear it long for the wedding, and would like an extra three inches (for the look) but taking care of it is such a pain!

The cut you got will still leave you lots of updo styling options! The only looks you really can’t do with that type of hair are the really polished ones where the hair is slicked to your head with a big bun or bunch of curls wound around artistically. Those elaborate ones usually require A LOT of hair for the stylist to play with, but those aren’t all that popular anymore anyhow!

My hair actually grows super fast, so I don’t really have to worry about having hair cutting willpower more that a couple of months before the wedding (which is great because, since my hair grows so fast, that willpower does NOT come naturally to me!)

Super cute cut, Miss Glitter!

You say “limp and lifeless,” I see “smooth and sleek.” I bet you never had to worry about frizz. But your new cut is great. It is more stylish than before.

Cute! I’m a proud short-hair bride because my FI convinced me that I was silly growing it out. I didn’t like it and he didn’t either.

I’m no expert but I think it’ll be even easier to do a wedding-day style at that length. Looks lovely!

Looks great on you!

I just chopped off 12 inches off mine! But at least i still have 8 months to grow it back.

I wimped out last year - wanted to donate to locks of love or pantene beautiful lengths, so this was my last chance before the wedding to do it and still have time to let me and the hair recover!

i too have long limp hair. and as the day wears on…. it gets limper and limper. i had cut it a few months back hoping that it would be my last cut before the wedding… but now i think it may actually be TOO long for the big day.

THANK YOU all for the kind words and compliments!! You are all so supportive and sweet! I felt liberated when I chopped off my dead locks. I would recommend it to any of you who are fed up with your long hair, because honestly (like many of you said) I can still do an updo if I really want to. While I think long hair is so pretty, for me, it was just too long!

@tipperella: thanks! the tights are from French Connection. I bought two adorable pairs last season…they might have even cuter ones this year! check it out!

@Serena: Hahaha!! Asians don’t normally* worry about frizz…however, we worry about fly-aways and if our hair will hold a curl :)
*I say normally because strangely, Glitter Mom-in-Law has major frizz, and she’s definitely Asian! I’m baffled as to how that happened…

@Gina: Sorry for the very late reply. You have a good eye! It’s actually a shirt, and it is from urban outfitters.
@munchiee414: My hair stylist is a fabulous, sweet lady in koreatown. If you’d like her name, salon and contact info, please PM me!!
