Part IX: Cocktails in the Sun

December 19th, 2008 @ 12:54 pm by Mrs. Pinot Noir

After we had a few moments alone, Mr. PN and I joined the party on the terrace. Immediately after the ceremony the Auburge staff removed the ceremony chairs and the deck was transformed into our “cocktail” hour space. Our guests were offered passed hors d’oeuvres and while we did not offer any liquor at the wedding (a huge cost savor!), we did provide guests with an excellent selection of wine, champagne, and beer.

We had planned to take pictures during the entire cocktail hour, but we started mingling with our family and friends and got a bit of a late start on the photos. This meant we only had time to do the group shots and no time for photos of just us. It turned out okay though because we were able to sneak away during the lunch for a more private photo session.

Up next, group photos and a handy checklist!

West Coast bride

It sounds like the “day of” itinerary is very much like what West Coast Groom and I have planned for our wedding in May. Your recap has been helpful to me so far and I can’t wait to see more (I’m taking particular note of the “no time for shots of just the two of us”! West Coast Groom doesn’t want to spend much time posing, and wants our photographer to focus almost entirely on candids, so he can enjoy his party!)

Cocktail hour always goes longer than we think it does, hey? That happened to me too! I’m glad it worked out though.

hi, your wedding looks beautiful! i am also getting married at auberge, but we were told that we couldn’t actually taste the menu before finalizing the menu. apparently, we are only able to dine at the restaurant and order items as similar to the ones we think we want to serve at our event. we find this very odd and frustrating, especially since we are flying out to napa from ny just for this. i’m just curious if you had a similar experience and how you dealth with it? your response would be greatly appreciated! thanks!!

@susan: Hey Susan! We had the same issue with Auburge. We were un able to do a formal tasting and could only eat at the restaurant. We had eaten there twice (in 2006 and 2007) before we decided to have our wedding there. While we had only had one of the items that we had on our wedding menu, all of the food was fantastic so we just picked what sounded good and appealing and went with it. Everyone loved the food, even the major “foodies” so it turned out okay for us. Good luck!
