About Mrs. Powder Puff

Our Rockin’ Photographer

December 22nd, 2008 @ 11:58 am by Mrs. Powder Puff

Photography is a secret love of mine. I love art and just all-around pretty things, and photographs are no exception. I drool over countless photography blogs, and I fantasize quite regularly about poses and moments that I would like captured on the big day.

So it was no surprise to anyone that the first vendor we booked was our photographer. We had shopped around at a couple of local photogs, but they were all a little on the pricey side (despite my undying love, I need to be practical; we are on a budget, after all), and none of them seemed to fit. Until we met Samantha.

Samantha Vanderlist (aka Shutter Sam) struck me right away with her fantastic personality and passion for what she does. Mr. Powder Puff and I immediately felt comfortable around her, which is a good thing because we’ll be spending a LOT of time together come wedding day. The best part- she fits in our budget! Woohoo!

I mean, you can’t help but love someone like this!

Here’s a little sampling of her work.

I’m so thrilled that Samantha is going to be part of our day- her photos will be cherished memories for years to come.

How did you find a fabulous photographer that was within your budget?

We moved last year so we are flying out our favorite photographer and Im so glad we can do so. She photographed the birth of my son Jackson. We was there the entire time snapping away in the background and the results were just beautiful. We just couldnt have anyone but her document another milestone in our life.

I wish that top photo didn’t have a shadow — then it’d be perfect.

We found ours through another bee who was asking photog. advice. I’m so glad we did.

It was totally worth eating that $750 deposit to the first photog to have our wonderful photographer!

Research! I looked at all the different photographers in town, compared prices and inclusions, and only met with the one photographer we chose. In the end, we didn’t want to spend more than $1000 at most on our photography, and the one we ended up choosing gave us the most bang for our buck. When we met her, she was incredibly organized, and we know she goes to a lot of effort to keep track of the style and feedback her couples give her in advance. She even told me to troll around on photographers’ web sites and e-mail her examples of photos I like. Also, our officiant has done weddings where she was the photographer and had great things to say about her too.

Your photographer has a great range. They will turn out great.

We found ours via an email advertisement for engagement photos. The engagement sessions was such a great deal we couldn’t pass it up (wasn’t originally part of our budget). They were great photos and the photographer gave us a special deal to shoot our reception (thanks to our mad bargaining skills).

We found ours via an interview he gave (my fiance’s a photographer too, so he reads these stuff) and he actually gave us a very reasonable quote for his caliber + the costs flying him in.

Photography’s a big chunk of our budget, but it’s definitely a priority for us!

I’m glad you found someone whom you’re comfortable with, whose style you like, AND fits the budget!

Honestly one of my friends got married about 8 months ago and I absolutely loved her pictures so I just asked who did them. Well once I met the photographer and looked at her work I figured out that she was just perfect!!

What’s so great about her is that she’s just starting out and she was able to give us a great deal on an entire package. My budget really liked that!!

We didn’t :-( Our photographer was double what we budgeted for it, but they are so well known we thought they’d be worth it. Talk about a case of “you DON’T get what you pay for”! So far their service has been awful. They are uncaring, and beyond greedy! I only hope our photographer (who we’ve met and really grooved with) doesn’t have their bad attitude rub off on him in the next 9 months! Sigh- at least we better have gorgeous pictures (though those are a whole other small fortune - not included w/ package of course)!
