Rethinking Hanukkah!

December 23rd, 2008 @ 5:40 pm by Mrs. Peep Toe

I wanted to take a moment and wish everyone out there a Happy Hanukkah!! Hopefully the first two nights have been filled with light! Hehe.

Mr. Peep Toe and I had a bunch of friends and family over for the first night of Hanukkah; we made some brisket and some Trader Joe’s latkes (so freakin’ good). We lit the candles and then exchanged presents.

And let me tell you, Mr. Peep Toe hit this one out of the park! I don’t know about where you live, but it has been cold in this part of the country this past week. I wouldn’t have been surprised if it had snowed. I know this is nothing compared to what’s happening north and east of here, but it’s been cold for us.

So what did Mr. Peep Toe do?

He bought me mittens! And not just any mittens, but mittens with a conscience! They are made from recycled sweaters with ridiculously soft lining, and the seller on Etsy is donating a set of recycled mittens to the needy for each pair she sells.

source.

How cute are these!?

And I had to show you an image of the great lining.

Anyway, this is my shout out to Mr. Peep Toe and Rethinkcrafts on Etsy. I love my mittens so much! They kept my little fingers toasty warm on my way to work this morning!!

How are you keeping warm this winter? And are you giving any gifts with a green touch??

Serious kudos to Mr. Peep Toe for shopping on Etsy! Pretty sure if you asked West Coast Groom about Etsy, the response would be “Whatsy?” Happy Hannukah!

BTW, latkes are sooooo easy to make at home! My favourite food blogger, Deb from SmittenKitchen.com is annually tryin to perfect her recipe and they are nothing short of amazing looking. http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/12/potato-pancakes-even-better/

I am making a pair for Mr. Taffy this holiday! I picked up two different sweaters at the thrift shop last week but haven’t decided which one to use for lining and which one to use for the top. What are yours lined with?

@West Coast Bride- We’ll have to check out the recipe. We just didn’t have time!

@Taffy, I don’t know exactly what the lining is- some sort of polyester blend. It feels like the lining to a baby blanket.

@Jamie- we actually got our menorah at the SF JCC. It wasn’t in a box, so I don’t really know who it is. But I recently saw some gorgeous menorah’s from Michael Aram.

Oooh. Mr. SW gave me gloves. I was thrilled! They too have a nice, soft, lining. And they are long enough to keep me cozy, even where the sleeves of my coat normally let in a draft!
