DIY Rewind: Cufflinks

December 23rd, 2008 @ 5:10 pm by DIY

Today’s DIY rewind comes to us from Mrs. Plum. Mrs. Plum shows us how to make cufflinks at home! If you can’t find cufflinks to suit your groom’s taste, this would be a great and thoughtful gift for your groom-to-be! Consider using coins from his family’s country of origin, or other objects that represent one of his hobbies. This DIY project was originally posted on December 22, 2006.

It sounds crazy/complicated, but when I saw this tutorial, I was like, “WOW! That’s so easy!” I don’t know if I’ll actually do this, but I thought it’d be interesting to share.

1. Find some old coins, buttons, or whatever you want to use!

2. Super glue them onto cufflink backings.

3. To present them, sew buttonholes onto some scraps of fabric/felt and then link them through the buttonholes.

The end!

You can buy cufflink backings on ebay and in craft stores - they’re kind of hard to find though, so I recommend the ebay route if you’re going to make these for all of your groomsmen!

Peso cufflinks : Got a dapper dresser in your life? Forget buying overpriced cufflinks when you can make your own with pretty much anything. Pick up stainless steel cufflink backings… then glue on any found object: Scrabble letters, old-fashioned typewriter keys or foreign money (like these lovely Mexican pesos).
