One year ago today, on Christmas Eve, Mr. Deviled Egg trumped anything I could have possibly wished for as part of Christmas by proposing to me. I really can’t believe how fast this past year has gone! And it’s even more unbelievable that the wedding is only 5 months away. When we had 17 months to go, May of 2009 seemed so far away. Now, I am a little in shock over how soon the big day will be here.
As I prepare to focused on what’s right around the corner, it’s hard not to reminisce on the wonderful thing that happened on this day in 2007.

Having the engagement anniversary so close to Christmas makes this year’s holiday feel extra special to me. It’s just another reason for me to remember that the best gifts aren’t the ones wrapped under the tree, but the relationships we share with the people we love every day of the year.

Did anyone else have a Christmas proposal?
My sister had a New Year’s Eve engagement in 2003/2004! My BIL was studying abroad in Austria during their third year in college. My sister went to visit him over the holidays with his family. On New Year’s Eve they all dressed up and went to the Opera at the Vienna Opera House where he proposed to her at the top of the grand staircase before the show! Boy, did my FI have something to top!

My husband-to-be (3 days to go!) proposed to me on Christmas Eve last year. We live in Sydney, Australia and he took me on a ferry across Sydney Harbour. Half away along the trip he got down on one knee and proposed! It was very romantic but I got all embarrassed that people were looking at us! So I told him to stand up before I said ‘Yes’ 
After the ferry ride we joined up with all his relatives for a Christmas Eve party and announced to everyone that we had gotten engaged. It was so lovely to be immediately welcomed so warmly into his family.

I think around the holidays, regardless of engagements and religions, these are some important words to keep in mind. For me, Christmas has always been a time to be with my family. Its comforting to know that other people feel the same about the ones they love.

We actually just got engaged yesterday! Not exactly Christmas, but we celebrated a day late with his family so it was as good as Christmas!
