I just spent about 10 minutes taking pictures of my wedding ring and engagement ring, and I couldn’t wait to show you the results!
The picture above and below was taken with my Canon XTi Rebel and a Canon EF 28-135mm lens. Don’t let the gear fool ya though — I’m a total photography newb. It was really hard to get the rings in focus!
Then today, my Christmas present to myself arrived — a new macro lens.

Ok this picture is pretty bad, but I just liked my owl salt and pepper shakers.
Wow what a difference a macro lens makes!
We had a box of Romeo and Juliet cigars, so I thought that’d provide a fun backdrop.
You can really see the detail here! My ring is a 1.25 carat round cut stone in an antique setting.
Thanks to Anne Ruthmann’s great tips, these are the best ring pictures I’ve ever taken! I definitely need more practice, but this was so much fun — you should give it a try, and send us the results! We’ll start posting ring pictures tomorrow. ![]()
