Last night I had dinner at Sakagura with some of the New York Bees. Sakagura carries over 300 different types of sake, and features an extensive assortment of Japanese dishes served like tapas. Here are just some of the things we tried!

sake kept chilled in a box filled with ice

ebi (shrimp) stick with miso dipping sauce

mashed potatoes coated in donut batter and deep fried

onsen tamago: soft boiled egg w/ sea urchin & salmon roe in cold soup

tender Japanese beef cooked on a hot stone (that white thing on top is fat)
black sesame creme brulee & ice cream,

chocolate souffle with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce

I forgot to take a picture of my favorite dish, the Buta Kakuni — stewed pork that was so soft I didn’t need a knife to cut it, and it just melted in your mouth. The portions were actually larger than I expected, considering that most Japanese restaurants typically serve very small portions. It’s a cool place to go with friends and try lots of different dishes — I’d go back and take out of towners for a fun experience and lots of sake.
PS - I’m going to be in LA in January, and Miss Meatball, Miss Glitter, Mrs. Kiwi and I are organizing a get together for January 10th or 11th. Hope to see you there!
