Six Bustled Bridesmaids

December 30th, 2008 @ 9:29 am by Mrs. Taffy

It was quite an ordeal finding the perfect bridesmaid dress. The dress that we chose happened to have a small train, something that I haven’t seen before in the world of bridesmaid attire.

Last week, lovely Tafette Miss S came to Detroit for the holiday and had her dress fitting. While marking the hem, the owner asked us if she should chop the train off or add a bustle. I had not considered bustling the bridesmaid dresses, so I’m glad that she suggested it! (Our alterations are free, so cost was not an issue.)

Miss S displays the bustle (roughly pinned, before alterations). To me, she looks relieved upon seeing the dress for the first time and not running in horror from my taste in bridesmaid fashion!

I think that this color looks lovely on Miss S.

Here’s the back view:

I think it is really cute! I hadn’t given any thought to the extra length in the back until the fitting, and I think it will be fun helping the bridesmaids bustle up their dresses. :)

Miss S, finished with her fitting and ready to venture back into the snow filled roads! Hope you are enjoying snow free LA this week! ;)

If your bridesmaid dresses had a train, would you bustle the dresses pre-ceremony or before the reception?

My bridesmaids’ dresses also have a small train (Jim Hjelm #5624) so they will need a simple one-point bustle as well. I originally pictured it as an overbustle but I like the way yours looks as an underbustle, so maybe we’ll do it that way instead.

We’re going to have the girls unbustled for the ceremony but then bustle them up immediately afterwards. I don’t need anyone tripping over themselves and spraining ankles at the reception ;-)

My friend just got married and I think she had the exact same BM dresses. Like LisaG suggested, they had theirs unbustled for the ceremony and bustled for the reception. It looked very nice and elegant for the ceremony and then for the reception the girls were able to dance comfortably.

I was actually in a wedding where we bridesmaids wore the dresses with a train. We didn’t know about bustling, but goodness I wish we had. During the ceremony of course, it was beautiful to have them and I practiced turning so that it would lay beautifully behind me while I stood, but definitely bustle for the reception, because there are about fifty pictures of me holding my dress up trying to dance.

My bridesmaid dresses have a small train too, it was something unexpected but they all loved the idea. I think it will make for some great pictures as well since my train is the focal point of my dress.

The bustle is such a good idea! I never would have thought of that either, but I love the look :)

I was in my best friend’s wedding in April and our dresses had a slight train. It was gorgeous for the church, but at the reception, my train got stepped on so many times, my mom had to whip out the safety pins and makeshift bustle the back so someone didn’t rip my dress off on the dancefloor! After I had mine done, the other 6 bridesmaids were hunting my mom down!! The bustle is definitely a must!!!!!

My BM dresses were tea length (although I wanted them long, but we won’t go there) so we didn’t need to bustle them obviously. But, my mom and grandma’s dresses had small trains on them. My grandma opted to chop hers down, but my mom kept hers and we bustled it.

@Taffette Miss S: LOL! Yes, that makes sense. I was all toasty in my coat, hat and scarf!!! I’m sorry that you had to be so chilly!

@LisaG: @FMH: @Peggy Sue: @SmallTownBride: Thanks for your input! I’m sure they will appreciate a dress that won’t trip them on the dance floor, or cause people to step on the hem. :)

@Miss Hot Cocoa: @AliCherri1: @Miss Peep Toe: Thanks! I love it too. It was such a fun surprise! :)

@Future Mrs. Keeney: Thanks! It’s Alfred Angelo, style 6133.

@Jenilee: My train is also a focal point, so it should work out great! :)

That’s the bustle my wedding dress had so of course I love it. Leave it down for the walk up the aisle, I’ve never seen bridesmaids with a mini train before!
