Help Me Choose!

January 2nd, 2009 @ 12:14 pm by Mrs. Hot Cocoa

While I’ve been lazing about during the holidays, eating, shopping, and generally being a non-productive member of society, the crafty Lo (of Etsy store LoBoheme) has been hard at work on a fabulous hairpiece for me to wear with my wedding qipao. If you’re not familiar with her store, Lo creates the most beautifully constructed vintage-inspired fascinators, floral and feather hairpieces, and headbands. For me, she designed a piece in shades of mauve, violet, and aubergine. And she’s paired it with a number of different centerpieces that I’m hoping you’ll help me decide between!

Option 1: Diamond-shaped Centerpiece

Option 2: V-Shaped Centerpiece

Option 3: Twelve-stone Round Centerpiece

Option 4: Leaf-shaped Centerpiece

Option 5: Fancypants Centerpiece

Option 6: Seven-stone Circle Centerpiece

There is an Option 7 (Mr. HC’s Anticipated Response, i.e., “I don’t get it — aren’t they all the same?”), but I’d have to hit you afterward, so I think it’s best I leave it out.

And here’s a teaser of my qipao — it’s silver lace over mauve satin.

What should I choose?

One other question: do you like the piece more with the pale pink feathers, as in Option 6, or without, as in the other ones? When I looked at the photos originally, the pink came off as white. White is the color of mourning in Chinese culture, so I asked Lo to take out the feathers. But does the piece look incomplete without them?

Thanks for your help and advice!!

I love it! I’ll have to check her store out. As far as the pink/white feathers, I love them :) Is there anyway to have them colored differently?

Then again, I’m a pretty big feather person…

I vote for option number 1. I think the shape best complements the angles included in the leaves and netting.

They are all great choices! I like six and three the best (I voted for 6). I like the feather colors in #6 too. I can’t wait to see it all come together!

I like the leaf because it compliments the rest of the piece. I agree with D’orsay with having the feather a different color, maybe if the white ones in the front could be a pink or lavender so that they are a light color and not white.

I voted for #4 because I think it compliments the floral pattern the best. I also think you should keep the feathers in the pale pink versus the white. Your qipao looks stunning!

I like 4 or 6, I agree that the graduated leaf shape of four complements the rest of the piece, but I also like the iridescent stones in six, in person they really seem to pick up all of the beautiful colors of the piece. This is so fun, thanks for doing this, its the most interactive experience I’ve had with an Etsy customer!!

I voted for option 6. I’m not sure why…for some reason it just stood out to me. My reasoning is just about as helpful as Mr. HC’s! Regardless, they are all beautiful! You are gonna look so pretty!

I like three and six…six especially! And if you’re afraid the feathers look white, leave them out…it looks fine without them :)

I like the 12-stone (option 3) b/c it’s fairly subtle and it also complements your ring! but the leaf would be my second choice b/c I am partial to leaf-style decoration ;) and I think it definitely looks fine w/o the extra feathers (although they look the same color as the other light-colored feathers in all of them - at least in these pics). in general, I love the piece! :)

The leaf is the way to go! I also like it best without the extra feathers.
