Winter Engagements!

January 2nd, 2009 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Champagne

I just wanted to give a congrats to any readers who got engaged this winter—it seems like love is definitely in the air! I got to thinking about our wedding and realized that of course not every bride chooses a winter wedding, but some couples choose winter engagement photos instead! I thought I would share some of my favorite winter shots.

Neil Cowley Photography:

I love when couples choose to involve their pets in their engagement pics!

Sandra Regier Photography:

How adorable are these hats?!!

Shane Macomber:

OK, I should preface this by saying that this bride is actually a long-time Vail friend of mine and I loved her engagement pics so much I had to share! Congrats Dee- so happy for you:

This might be my favorite pic because you can see her Sorel boots. Growing up in Vail, I thought everyone wore them—when I went to college in Boston and wore these boots people looked at me like I was from Mars. This is such a cute photo:

I’m mildly obsessed with this picture. So sweet.

Some of my favorite winter engagement photos are by our own WeddingbeePro Anne Ruthmann—how cute are these?!

So congrats newly engaged readers—winter truly is the season of love, romance, and family.

When did you take your engagement photos?

these are sooo great. I especially love the one where she’s looking over his shoulder. I’m having a winter wedding but I’m stil pretty upset that it doesn’t snow in southern california. If only I was tori spelling and could have my dad import snow for me. :-) le sigh. hehe

I very much wanted to do winter engagement photos, but we ended up doing them in the fall due to our photographer’s pregnancy - we did our photos before she got “huge” as she put it. And it’s a good thing, since she’s fearless when it comes to getting the shot, and I doubt a few extra pounds would stop her!

I got engaged on Christmas eve, but unfortunately, it was a balmy night in CO, so no snow for me.

Thanks for the engagement photo ideas- I love the snowman one.

For Christmas, my stb fiance gave me the gift of our engagi-moon! He and I are planning a trip before March, so yes it technically will be a winter engagement and that is when it will happen.

He and I are planning the trip together, but only he will know when and where and the how of the actual engagement itself! It’s incredibly exciting! He’s got the ring and he’s trying to be utterly creative right now as to the how/when/where stuff!

After the engagement happens, I have absolutely no idea when or where we’ll do engagement shots. But we have snow finally in Atlanta at stone mountain (now transformed into snow mountain!) :) Most likely it will be in the spring, but we’re lucky. The Atlanta Botanical Gardens are a drop dead gorgeous location as are the nearby mountains.

I was engaged in June, but we’re going to do engagement photos in March or so. When it “might” be warm enough to just wear sweaters, but there should be plenty of snow on the ground.

Those are great! And such timing! I just found an old friend’s photos that make me want to have a winter engagement session. They’re so beautiful! I love especially love the close up of their faces and the red barn in the snow. (I linked to the page through my name but in case it doesn’t work, the photos are at http://bryanruppphotography.wordpress.com/2009/01/04/jordan-and-luke-part-two/)

I just got engaged :) Yay! What is the standard for having engagement pictures taken? So many months prior to the wedding…. so many months after the engagement? Is there a deadline that I should not pass so that I don’t look like an idiot? Help!!!

@RenoRx: @RenoRx: @RenoRx:

When you do your engagement session is up to you and how you intend to use the images.

I did one engagement session starting a year ahead of the wedding and again every quarter for the year… so that we had shots of them in every season.

My engagement sessions usually run 2-3 hours and end up in a 30 page guestbook. My preference is 3 months ahead of the wedding so there is plenty of time to do selects, edits, guestbook design and have the book assembled/delivered. I could force it inside 6 weeks if absolutely necessary and no other projects/clients get in the way.
