Mrs. Champagne's Picture
Miss Champagne, DC/Vail/Colorado Age and Occupation: 26, Eye Doctor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Attorney Engagement Date: March 13, 2006 Wedding Date: February 2009 Blogging Since: July 30, 2008 Venue: Small church ceremony with mountain-view log cabin reception About Me: I'm a small town mountain girl with a city heart. Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we're planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I'm secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. I use way too many repeated symbols and letters when I write, and I'll love Mr. Champagne endlessly…

(Calligraphy by Michele)

I guess I should start at the beginning. You may or may not know that Mrs. Tiramisu and I are good friends. We are in the same profession, and we met along the way. Basically, she introduced me to Weddingbee, and I was quickly obsessed! :) She also introduced me to the Gocco, and truthfully, after we did our save the dates on her Gocco, I knew I had to purchase one for myself.

Our invites were centered around a monogram we had created by Aimee over at Creative Montage. This is the same monogram that guests will notice on the out of town bags, menus, cocktail napkins, and bathroom guest towels. We used our initials for the invitation, and we’ll use our married monogram after the ceremony.

Now that the invites are finally out of my hands, here you go! The invitations were created all with my Gocco, and this truly was a labor of love. I ordered all supplies from Envelopper, Inc. and I highly recommend their services.

Much of our invitation set was custom cut by Envelopper, and the rest (the vellum for the belly band and the belly band elements) I cut with a paper cutter I got at ACMoore using a 50% off coupon.

I did run across a few snags along the way. The Gocco can print with a limited size screen, so I had to do some of the invitation elements in steps. The invitation cards and accommodation cards were done in two stages (I Gocco’d half, let it dry, finished the other half), and I made sure to have extra in case they were uneven at all.

RSVP card:

I did what many bees have done and numbered the RSVP cards in light pencil in case anyone forgot to write their name in.

I mulled around with the idea of attempting calligraphy. I even bought a book and some intro equipment, but ultimately it just didn’t look good! So, I enlisted the help of the fabulous Michele Clark. Her work is wonderful and she’s so easy to work with. We chose her style: alt caps script.

We chose gold ink for the return address:

Now that these babies are gone, a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders! Now it’s on to the next DIY!

What was your most rewarding project?

They are so elegant! It’s too late now, but for other people doing their invites, they can also number them with an invisible pen. They are super cheap and you really can’t see anything.

Let me tell you guys- they are even more gorgeous in person. AND I had to look for at least five minutes to notice the tiny pencil mark on the RSVP card… I was getting ready to yell at Miss C for forgetting to number!
