I had barely recovered from Mr. D’s surprise before the DJ announced that the father-daughter dance would begin in a couple minutes. I left to quickly change back into my gown. I know it is atypical to change back, but I just loved my gown and I wanted to be dancing with my dad and Mr. D in it
.

Daddy and I waltzed to a Chinese hymn that spoke of a Father’s love and also about God’s blessings. My dad had spent hours poring over what song to use and even had prepared a little powerpoint presentation that displayed the lyrics and scenic images as we danced. Mr. D and MIL Daffodil joined in at the second verse.
Then, it was me and Mr. D’s turn. We had spent the longest time trying to pick out a song… it was so hard to pick a song that wasn’t cheesy! But when we discovered the song, we both knew right away that it was it. We decided on Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours,” the single which at the time had not been released yet. It had the folksy acoustic feel that we liked, not too cheesy, and just very sweet
.
Mr. D had actually been a little nervous about dancing in front of so many people, so he had us practice a few steps a couple days before. But when the time comes, you realize it’s really just the two of you. We totally abandoned any rehearsed steps and just went with it!
Then randomly, all the groomsmen decided to join in with some semblance of ring around the rosy, similar to the way they did in Mr. D’s music video!
So silly and random! We are loving it!
The music then faded out, and “Ladies Night” came on. Our DJ called all the single ladies up to the dance floor for the bouquet toss!
Bridesmaid Sonia catches it!
I give her a big hug and get ready for the garter toss, until I suddenly realize something: Um, I had forgotten to put my garter on! I frantically ran over to the DJ to tell him and was able to catch him before he called all the men up. I guess no wedding is without at least a little snafu!
Well, all the ladies were already on the dance floor… suddenly, some Flo Rida starts playing and the DJ rallies everyone else up to the dance floor too! Before we knew it, the party had really gotten started!
Here I am showing off my newly married status!

So, I had considered sharing this for my version of the “Secret Life of Bees,” but seeing that that series is over now, I’ll reveal that I was part of a dance group back in college… which means that we had quite a few dancers in the crowd. In fact, all I had wanted for our reception was to just have a huge dance party! But yes, what this meant was that inevitably, some dance battles would probably occur.
And occur they did! We definitely had a couple breakdancers show off their stunts… and then another buddy of ours, who decided to show off his Matrix move. Unfortunately, this came at the cost of some very expensive Prada pants that were not made for dancing…
(we heart you, man!)
The DANCE PARTY continues! Getting down with my girls…
And the perfectly captured shot of me and Mr. D, sharing an intimate moment amidst the crowd.
