My So-Called Preppy Wedding

January 5th, 2009 @ 10:28 am by Mrs. Quiche

Tropical location or not, I will do everything in my power to have preppiness incorporated into as many aspects of the wedding that I can. One place where this was easy to do was in the bridesmaids’ dresses. You see, I love seersucker. Love it. However, the quest for seersucker bridesmaid dresses isn’t easy or cheap. The one site I found them on was ridiculously expensive (for COTTON, people!) and not exactly the style I was envisioning.

I wasn’t crazy about the striped fabric for the wedding.

I knew from the beginning that I wanted navy blue dresses for my girls. Perfectly preppy, crisp, and it is one of my favorite colors. The search for “Navy Seersucker Dresses” took me to good ol’ target.com and that’s when I found the perfect dress:

and at $39 bucks, you can’t beat it!

Check out that saddle stitch grosgrain ribbon! Love it, love it.

Even though I had only been engaged for a month, I sent the link out to all of my girls and they all bought it within 2 days (thanks for being timely!).

Did you find your bridesmaids’ dresses at an unexpected, yet ultimately perfect, location?

I actually found my bridesmaids dresses at Forever 21. They had a whole rack full of colors and they were only $12.50. I bought a whole range full of sizes and passed them out, donated the 2 extra ones. So total it cost me about $100.00 for all the dresses. Not too shabby

What a great find! They are super cute. I have a pair of pink seersucker converse that I have worn into the ground! Now I want another pair. ;)

I LOVE seersucker too and would LOVE to find reasonably priced seersucker dresses for my ladies to wear… did you find any others besides the one from Thread?

@Lillindy: Thanks for the link - I haven’t seen this blog yet!

@Mrs. Pinot Noir: My thoughts exactly! I know a lot of people say they can wear their BM dresses again, but I think they really WILL be able to with these :) I told one BM that she better not show up to the wedding with a faded, wrinkly dress - she jokingly stated that she was going to wear it to another wedding!

@AliCherri1: Those were the only bridesmaid dresses that I could find. I googled every combination of “seersucker”, “dress”, “bridesmaid”, “wedding”, etc. and just didn’t come up with any other “real” bridesmaid dresses. When is your wedding? If you can afford to wait, J. Crew updates their signature seersucker dress every spring. & Target had a great selction this year as well!
