Nifty Wedding Details II

January 6th, 2009 @ 10:24 am by Mrs. Glitter

This awesome detail relates to bridal wear. I love how creative brides are these days with what they wear! Some gals are even wearing not one, but two or three different outfits throughout the day. While I’d like to say I could pull that off, I’d probably find some way to foil any complex fashion strategies I attempt. That’s just me.

Maybe you’re a one dress kind of girl like me. Or maybe you can’t afford to splurge on five wardrobe changes throughout the night. Or maybe you want something to cover your shoulders at your fall/winter wedding. One way to pull off a different (and quite stylish) look without actually changing clothes is to add a colorful, fun cardigan to the mix!

Check out these looks:

Have you considered wearing a coverup or a colorful cardigan with your dress?

I love the middle pic! The others are really cute, but it makes it seem not as “wedding-like”. My wedding is in a couple of weeks, and I may want some kind of wrap or cardigan but I haven’t found it yet. I love that blue one though :)

I would love to wear Keira Knightley’s (I think that’s who that is?) outfit any day of the week! I love floofy skirts!

I heart cardigans! Have you seen Mrs. Hydrangea’s TTD pics? She’s wearing the cutest red caplet. If I were to do it all over again (VOW RENEWAL, anyone?!?!) I would totally rock a cardigan.

This wouldn’t be my situation but I am surely a one dress kinda girl like you. I would wear the dress the whole week if I could. So I know if I feel like one day isn’t long enough to show off my dress, a couple hours (for each outfit) would surely kill me!!

@emjoy37: I agree. On the first and third brides, it almost just looks like they’re pairing a colorful sweater with a long white skirt. I love the second picture though, she loses none of the bridal look and just looks cute!

I was married in November in a tea-length, strapless dress - so I didn’t feel like I had much choice! I ended up buying two sweaters, one more “traditional” delicate white cardigan, and one bold blue cardigan that matched my bright blue peep-toes. I’m very glad I chose to wear the blue, because I still get compliments!

Unlike the ones you’ve pictured, my sweater was relatively tight and cropped, which didn’t sacrifice the details at the waistline of my dress. The bodice I covered was very simple, and some white still showed through at the neckline, which helped balance the colors. Ultimately it depends on the look you’re going for!

Great pictures!

These are so cute! I’ve never thought of that! I’m defineatly going to look into this! I have a tattoo across my back that I love, even if my parents and his don’t. I think this would be the perfect way to cover it up for pictures and the reception without taking away from my dress. Thanks!!

I love the pop of color you can get from the sweater.

I love the sweater look, it’s something I’m considering going with-depending on what dress style I go with. I also love Kate Headley, I’m meeting with her next week to discuss her photographing our wedding! :D

Just to clarify, these were post-wedding shoots. They wore the cardigan as another “look” for their photoshoot ….and it was chilly out.

I have a yellow cardigan from J. Crew I’ll be wearing on the big day. I won’t be wearing it the whole day though. Probably just during the evening at the reception and for some photos. My fiance loves the idea. He’s so excited.

I’m hoping to find a faux fur wrap or shrug for pictures and some portions of the day. I’m going for the old glamour thing :-)

Awww I love that second one! Almost makes me want to get a cardigan…but that would be one more thing to worry about, and I definitely don’t need that. :)

I’m really glad this post has inspired some of you! That’s really my overall aim - to get you thinking about fun details that you may not have considered. And I absolutely love cute, girly sweaters!!

Great post Glitter! I’m wanting to send this out to a few LDS friends of mine, this would be a great way to buy some inexpensive strapless dresses and wear them. I ended up paying a lot for a dress I had to add alterations too, but going this route might have allowed me to do something totally different.

I love that you are trying to think outside the box with your inspiration posts and help people think of new ways to look at things. Bravo for you! I wish I had (and would) do the same.
