Part XIII: The Pinots’ First Dance

January 6th, 2009 @ 2:24 pm by Mrs. Pinot Noir

After our surprise grand entrance, we immediately led into our first dance. We wanted to get it done right so we could stop being nervous and enjoy the reception! Remember how we invested in dance lessons? It was finally time to put them to good use! The song we chose for our first dance was Songbird by Eva Cassidy and our wonderful musicians, Wine Country Piano Music, did an amazing job performing it.

Photography by Jim Forneris Photography unless otherwise noted.

We did run into one major snafu (other than nerves): the dance floor. It was about a third of the size that we remembered it being and we were entirely unprepared to dance in such a small space. The dance studio we practiced in was much larger. As a result we ended up talking ourselves through the entire dance (”Do we have room for this move?” and “Do you want to skip that part?”). We also spent a lot of time looking down (#1 no-no from our dance instructor)! Despite the problems we still really enjoyed our first dance and our guests loved it too. In fact, we were even told that we moved a few guests to tears!

Perfect shot of our watching the dance floor (our instructor would be so disappointed)!

We did our first dance before the reception started as well and it was a great idea. Haha, and ditto on the dance floor being tiny. I wish we had snuck in to practice on it during cocktails.

I love Eva Cassidy! I had never heard of her before until I was looking for songs for our BM to walk down the aisle to..I wanted “What a Wonderful World” and I found her version of it…it is beautiful! Check it out when you get a chance. We used it and everyone loved it. Her death was such a loss to everyone

SO sweet! It looks like those lessons really paid off - even though you say you’d get in trouble for looking on ground, I think you handled the dancefloor snag very well :)

Part XIV: A Toast to the Bride and Groom » Weddingbee » The Wedding Blog

[...] After our first dance, my father gave a short welcome toast. He welcomed Mr. PN into our family and thanked all of our guests for coming. He did a great job—especially since I only asked him to do it the week before. I was hoping that the short notice would prevent him from getting too nervous (probably not a good idea!). [...]
