Even Mr. Peep Loves a Good Sale!

January 6th, 2009 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Peep Toe

So you already know about my shopaholic ways, and how much I love a good deal. But let me tell you ladies, Mr. Peep also loves a good sale.

When I said a while back that he has champagne taste on a Bud Light budget, I was not kidding.

A few months ago, Mr. Peep and I made a second trip to Bloomingdales to finish off our registry (we just didn’t have the stamina to finish it in one day, and really, it gave us (me) another reason to go to Bloomies). After we finished up downstairs, I politely mentioned that we go up to the men’s department to just check out the suits. Since we were registered at Bloomies, we’d receive 15% off Mr. Peep’s attire, so Mr. PT reluctantly obliged to go see what they had.

Then we found out that it was the last day of a suit sale. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back, and finally Mr. Peep agreed to actually try on one suit.

And when I say one suit, I mean it. He tried on one suit and fell in love with it.

It was a chocolate brown Burberry suit (he’s such a label whore), and at the end of the day- it was 40% off!

I couldn’t believe that after all the dresses I tried on, Mr. PT got away with trying on only one suit!

The madness that is Mr. Peep’s obsession with a good deal didn’t stop there. My BIL also loves high end menswear and always goes shopping the day after Christmas. He actually convinced Mr. Peep to go shopping on Black Friday in Downtown SF for ties.

That is how I found myself on December 26th waiting for Pink to open with a dozen gay men in San Francisco. But let me tell you, the sale didn’t disappoint. A good selection of their ties and shirts were 50% off, and Mr. PT was able to find a tie and shirt that looked great and held true to the store’s name. I give you Mr. Peep’s attire:

I think it looks pretty smashing if I do say so myself.

After Pink, I was able to deflate Mr. Peep’s head a bit and I got him to duck into the Macy’s Men’s store. We still had ties to buy for our dads, his two groomsmen, and the ushers. Since I still wanted Pink to only be an accent color, and I wanted Mr. Peep to stand out, we were looking for green ties. But not just any green—a green that pops!! And lo and behold, at 50% off plus another 15% off for Black Friday, we found 7 green ties that all kinda go together:

The one on the far left is for my Dad- he’s such a traditionalist when it comes to ties- I still can’t imagine him ever wearing this tie again.

Here they are with Mr. Peep’s tie:

I think it looks pretty good together.

Now the hard part. Finding suits for the two groomsmen. I am leaning towards having the two guys buy khaki suits, like this picture here (but minus 10 guys):

Source.

They aren’t ’suit guys’ so I feel bad making them buy a suit.

Does anyone know somewhere near SF that you can rent suits?

If they do buy suits, any suggestions on where? And should I have them buy khaki (which I think will be easier to find) or have them try to find a brown suit?

And how much did your groomsmen spend on their outfit? I know that a tux rental can easily be $150.

Help hive! Our men need suits!

A friend of mine found inexpensive suits a while back for her groomsmen at Target! It turned out be cheaper than renting them. I would also try looking at H&M.

We’re just going with MWTUX since we are renting the tux for FI and the groomsman & fathers. I know many people may not like using the larger stores but they rent suits as well if you want. Even CK tuxes were well under $200 so they are reasonable.

You can rent khaki suits from Jim’s Formalwear, for about $85. Their website has list of locations - that may the cheapest way for you.

I love the ties that you purchased :) The total of our groomsman’s tuxedos were $120 including shoes; we rented from Men’s Wearhouse.

I loooove how all the green ties are different. And I adore that shade of green too! I think if i wasn’t having a red wedding, I would’ve had a green one. :)

I don’t know about local SF places, but I do know that when I was asking Tux places about suit rentals (my FI was originally thinking about Navy suits) most of them had suits available. So check out any tux place locally and they may have suits in tan for your guys to rent! :)

My boyfriend bought a khaki suit at Express for Men for a wedding 2 years ago and it was really nice. I think he paid somewhere between $100 and $150. But if you use one of those $30 off coupons that they’re constantly mailing out, you could even go cheaper.

Great finds! Nordstrom Rack can also have really great deals on men’s suits; there’s one on 8th or 9th underneath the 101, with a parking lot. Selection may be somewhat limited but if you score, you score big. It’s worth 10 min of popping in if you’re in the area.

We also bought Countess Mara ties for our groomsman, but in fuchsia/black. I love their ties because the colors are so vibrant. All the other ones we found were all so pastel.

I second Express! That’s where my guy gets all his, as we call them, “fancy pants”. (And uh, shirts). He’s gotten a couple pairs of nice wool dress pants for around $95 each, but they have less expensive options. They carry shirts in a ginormous range of colors, too! He hasn’t gotten any suit jackets there, but if the other poster mentioned it, there must be some ;)

I love the ties!!! I’m gonna come back to this idea when it’s time to think about the groomsmen’s attire. Also, we’re also gonna be doing suits instead of tuxes for guys. At first I felt bad asking guys to buy suits but then I thought about it and the girls will be buying dresses so why should we feel bad asking them to buy suits if we find suits that are a good price and comparable to renting a tux. We’re still working on the details. Good luck!!!!

We bought our groomsmen Calvin Klein suits on clearance at Macy’s. It’s a light stone color (cannot find too many khaki suits right now) and we bought it during the holidays for 80% off! Unfortunately, since it was a clearance item, we had to look all over Northern California (and Nevada!) for the suits, but finally found all 6! :-)

The Pink sale sounds like a fantastic bargain!

I LOVE pink and the great green color ties!!! It looks fantastic.

You may be able to score some great tux deals at Burlington Coat Factory, you have a huge one there in the city near sf state.
