ACK!! Trials Start Soon!

January 7th, 2009 @ 11:25 am by Mrs. Crab Cake

Once I had solved my photographer dilemma and booked the bridals, I realized it was time to get serious about finalizing my bridal look. I know, it seems early to be finalizing anything, but my photographer is preggers and expecting in April, so we’ll be shooting my bridals at the end of February. Last week, I realized I was just about two months away from my bridals, and with fittings to be done, shoes to be dyed, crinolines and bras to buy, and decisions to be made about hair, makeup, and veils, I decided I had better get down to business and make some decisions.

The weekend before Christmas, Mr. CC and I traveled to my Dad’s house to celebrate Christmas with them. Since I have no David’s Bridal anywhere near me, I jumped at the opportunity to go in and get a crinoline and a long line bra. Yeah, I probably could have gotten the bra cheaper elsewhere, but it was convenient.

I had heard rumors that David’s Bridal’s crinolines were dyable. When I asked the consultant if she knew, she looked at me as if I were sprouting a horn out of the middle of my forehead. She said, “well, I’ve never heard of anyone dying their crinoline, but I’m sure they are.” Anyway, I bought my crinoline and a long line bra and crossed that chore off my list of things to do.

I also made some final decisions about my veil, but we’ll talk about that later.

I called and made my first fitting appointment and asked about the dying of the shoes. I scheduled my trials for the day of the shoot. And that’s when I realized I still don’t really have a good idea of what I want, hair and makeup wise.

I know I want a low chignon, with my veil placed on top of it. Kinda like this:

Except no flowers.

I really want to pull my vintage theme into my look with hair and makeup, since my attire is not vintage at all. I literally spent hours sifting through all the hair on Project Wedding. I have to say that I really like what Project Wedding has to offer, especially when compaired to other sites. My requirements were a low, pulled back look, no plastering, and preferably not curly. My hair does not hold curl at all.

I really, really love this look! The back is only slightly curly, the front is smooth, and very similar to what my hair does naturally, and the makeup is fantastically vintage. But I’m very nervous about wearing that red red red lipstick on my wedding day. I always feel a little, well, skanky with red lipstick on.

Oh, Katherine Heigl, I love you so much. These are both fantastic vintage looks without the red lipstick. I’m just not sure what the back of the ‘dos look like. Also, the makeup is very, very similar to what my daily makeup looks like.

Yes, it’s Katherine again. I really like this too. Kinda vintage, with the little pomp in the front. But that’s about it.

So what do y’all think? Which hairstyle should I go for: 1, 2, or 3? And what should I do about makeup, totally vintage, not vintage at all, or somewhere in the middle?

I, too, want to wear red lipstick but I’m scared. Sometimes I think I look like a clown with it on.

I had a vintage inspired wedding and I wore Chanel makeup (done by an amazing artist for free at the mall)—I was hesitant about the red red lipstick, but everyone really loved it and it really into the whole look. i’ve been meaning to send in a real weddings thing with pictures to mrs bee, and maybe i’ll prioritize it now!

I like #1 the best of the Katherines. It’s very natural and soft!

I think some people just can’t pull red lipstick off.
If you really don’t feel confident about it, rest assured, some of the most beautiful images of marilyn monroe, audrey hepburn, and grace kelly picture them with lips sans a crimson hue!

I love the third look. You want to be comfotable with the way you look and feel on your wedding day and not worried about how your lipstick looks the whole time. That said, test out the red and if you’re comfortable- I say rock it!!

I really like all your hair pics, but 1 and 2 I am leaning towards for some reason. They will all look great on you actually. Yeah I agree with you on the red lipstick, for me it always seems like a great idea but then I look at the pics afterward and think that um.. I shouldn’t have worn it. If you are thinking about it make absolutely sure you feel fabulous with it, you don’t want to regret it.

The Catherine looks, take them to your stylist and they can create something that’s just for you…I took her photos with me, as well. I also took a photo of Amanda’s hair from the Vintage Glam blog…if you like the vintage look you HAVE to check her blog out!

I also like to search google images. Try with different search terms like “fingerwave updo” or “vintage updo” and see what you come up with. Like I found this look that you might also like: http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2006/specials/emmys06/show/bwhair/tyra_banks.jpg

Wondering how to effectively test your hair, makeup and jewelry? Simple. Wear a Bridal Mini to the salon. It looks just like the top half of a wedding gown. Your gown stays safe-no risks of staining it!

I have a possibly stupid question… What are “bridals” as in “shooting my bridals”? ‘Cause that sounds like photos of the bride, but not on the wedding day… but looking like you will on the wedding day?

@Chloe: It’s ok, I didn’t know what Bridals were either. Since we did a engagement shoot with another photographer, my photographer wanted to do a session so we could get to know each other. I’m going to get all done up, like it was the big day, and go to another location for photographs. It’s a nice way to get have lots of pretty pictures of you in your get up.
