Centerpieces… Vote Now!

January 7th, 2009 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. D'orsay

… or forever hold your peace?

We’ve decided we should do our own centerpieces, but before you deem us crazy, please know that we have a team of very talented friends we’ll be relying on (this could mean you!).

In the showdown of the century we have in the green corner:

Weird Uhule Fern/River Rock/Green Button Mum centerpieces, now referred to as Centerpiece A:

Centerpieces... Vote Now! : wedding baltimore decor reception Centerp Centerpiece A

Centerpiece A

And in the white corner, we have a classic, traditional Hydrangea Centerpiece (imagine the square vase round), now referred to as Centerpiece B:

Centerpieces... Vote Now! : wedding baltimore decor reception Centerp01 Centerpiece B

Centerpiece B

But before you suggest to just use both (which is my favorite way of making decisions) I’d rather pick just one. No matter what the centerpiece, there will be those cute little inviting votives circling them. Preferably the ones around Centerpiece A.

It’s a tough call, because they are so different!

Which centerpiece should we choose?

we have VERy similar ideas for centerpieces! I am diong floating orchids and candles in tied cylinder vases on the gift and escort card tables and hydrangea bunches in small fishbowl vases for my table centerpieces!

Too cute :-)

I think that A is a bit more unique, and B is a bit more traditional… I voted for A, but I’m not sure that I fully grasp the theme of your wedding yet - being that you are still a relatively new-bee. I’m sure that which ever way you decide to go it should work out great!

I picked A for sure - it’s unique! It depends on the theme of your wedding though and the other flowers, etc.

My wedding was in August of ‘08 in MD, and I had a really hard time finding white fluffy hydrangeas. I had ordered some online from CA months ahead of time, and they were green and conical when they arrived. In a panic, I hit the nearby grocery stores, but only found a few bunches. I would consult with a trustworthy florist about their availability before getting your heart set on them. Good luck!

Yes I agree that A is the more unique choice, there’s just something about it that I love!!

it really depends on if you are going for modern/funky and traditional/classic. And I don’t think I can make that decision for you.

I have agree with many of the previous commenters in that it’s kind of hard to pick without a little more detail regarding the feel of the reception…

However, based on personal preference, I picked B. Normally I’d jump on anything green (my colors are brown and green), but the fern thing looks very worm-like to me. I also feel if you’re relying on friends/family for help, the second choice is a little more amateur-friendly.

We’re not even doing floral centerpieces… we’re using APPLES!

I love the first centerpiece and considered something similar because I didn’t want to have flowers at the wedding. I would put two similar mock ups on a table and sit down: does it feel too sparse, too much, too bland?
My fear with Centerpiece A is that it will get swallowed by anything else that goes on the table (including food etc.) It would look great on other tables (serving, etc.) but it seems a little too precious, or perhaps needs to be paired with something else.
I heart Centerpiece B for the sheer fact that it is downright girly fun and chic at the same time.

I picked A as well…maybe with the water filled to the top with floating candles. We are going with something similar because a full flower centerpiece just costs too much!

I went with B as having a wedding at a manor makes it seem more liek B.

I like both… I voted for Option B because of your venue and because it looks so classy.

I voted for the hydrangea. They make beautiful wedding center pieces.

No matter which one you choose. Do be weary of where you purchase them. Full disclosure here. I am a retail florist so yes I am biased. But (yeah there is always a but).

Flowers shipped to you “directly” (that is a whole other blog entry) are not hydrated when you receive them and will likely be dry packed (as they usually are when your florist receive them). If not properly hydrated and treated you might be disappointed on your wedding day with drooping hydrangea.

There is nothing wrong with doing your own center pieces. I do suggest that you go to your local florist and get properly treated stems. They can order just the color and variety that you want and you will know that they are right when you get them.
Also long before the big day. Go out and buy a few stems, take them home and try a few arrangements. If you like the results great. If not and you are determined to do it yourself. It gives you time to experiment more, have more beautiful flowers around your home and be sure you are pleased on your big day when there will already be plenty to stress over.

Have a beautiful wedding,
Bob

I voted for A just because it’s more unique. I think the deciding factor for you should be cost. Buy everything to make both options, then do a practice run making both. See what it costs and how long each one takes, then I think your answer will reveal itself.

I would have said a combo of both, but you stopped me in my tracks before I could say that as an option, lol. I just love when weddings have a mixture of different types of centerpieces.

I do like them both but I voted for B. I think it feels more warm and romantic. Could you use A for the cocktail hour or welcome table and then B on the reception tables?

I like both quite a bit. Centerpiece A is very unique, not something I feel you would not see everyday. However, Centerpiece B is classic and very beautiful. I voted for Centerpiece A because it is more unique and I personally feel more romantic. Good luck with the choice!
