About Mrs. Pinot Noir

After our first dance, my father gave a short welcome toast. He welcomed Mr. PN into our family and thanked all of our guests for coming. He did a great job—especially since I only asked him to do it the week before. I was hoping that the short notice would prevent him from getting too nervous (probably not a good idea!).

After our main course my Godmother made a beautiful toast to our new marriage.

Up next was the best man’s toast. Mr. PN’s brother, Mr. G, gave a hilarious speech in which he recounted the first time we met. It was February 2004 and we had flown to Connecticut for BIL PN’s wedding. Mr. G picked us up from the airport on a freezing February night. The gentleman that he is, he got out of the car to help with our luggage and to make a formal introduction. When we closed the back of Volvo it caused all the doors in the car to lock. And guess what? Yep. The car was running and we were locked out. We really got to know each other as we waited outside in the freezing cold for AAA to come pick the locks…

Next up was my Maid of Honor, Miss N. Miss N hates public speaking and she was really nervous. She had been nervous about this speech since I asked her to be my MOH last December! But, she did great! She recounted stories of our childhood and how we have managed to stay so close despite the distance that separates us.

Mr. PN’s college roommate from freshman year, Mr. P, was inspired to recount a story from when Mr. PN and I first started dating. Shortly after Mr. PN and I started dating in 2003 I moved from New Hampshire back to Minnesota. While we had only been dating for a month, we were falling in love despite our attempts to keep things light (after all I was about to move 1500 miles away). Mr. PN was working in politics at the time and spending a lot of time organizing political roadside rallies—where a bunch of supporters hold signs on street corners to support their candidates. Well, he used his skills to orchestrate a little “rally” just for me. He painted two signs and hung them on the last two bridges in New Hampshire. The first sign said “I Will Miss You” and the second sign said “I Heart You”. He told me to keep an eye out while I was leaving the state and when I saw those signs I knew that he was the one for me.

Last up was Mr. PN’s mom. She gave an amazing speech about our love and the unique relationship that we have built over the last five years.

Speech politics can be crazy! Some people just ask, some people are waiting to be asked, and some are so nervous, they pray you don’t ask! We asked my mum and her partner to say something, since we’re having the wedding at their house, and my grandpa has asked if he can make a speech too. With the Best Man/MOH speeches, and me and West Coast Groom doing our own welcome toast, that’s five! We’re going to wait and see how we feel closer to the day (We’re still about 5 months away!)

We didn’t know who was going to give speeches besides our parents and best man and MOH… so the surprise ones (including a couple VERY impromptu speeches) were awesome.

How sweet is Mr. PN with the signs?! Too freakin’ sweet!

I love speeches at weddings. The more, the merrier in my opinion. I love hearing childhood antics, how the couple met, etc. Sounds like yours were all great!

Love all the pics, too ;)
