Details to Delight

January 8th, 2009 @ 11:54 am by Mrs. Meatball

Sometimes it’s the little things that make events memorable, and I’ve got a few exciting tricks up my sleeve for our big day!

When I first saw this awesome lotus-shaped origami napkin bonbonniere on Polka Dot Bride (via Dandi), I nearly died. The lotus goes perfectly with our Magic Carpet Ride theme, and it’s such a unique and beautiful way to fold the napkins! I also love the bonbonniere aspect.

Surprising but true: I’m mostly Greek by heritage (did the red hair throw you off?), and want to work as many Greek traditions in as possible into our wedding. The Greeks traditionally include five Jordan almonds in their Koufeta (wedding favors), to signify wishing the new husband & wife happiness, health, wealth, children & a long life. I thought it would be sweet to nestle five almonds in the heart of the lotus with a little note explaining the significance. For instructions on folding your own lotus napkins, go here.

One thing I’ve craved at other weddings was something to break the ice and encourage guests to talk and mingle. When I saw Mrs. Peacock’s adorable fortune-teller menus, I knew I found our answer. She originally saw these on Martha’s site via Darcy’s wedding, where they were used on the bars and had fun dares in them like “kiss the bride” or “introduce yourself to someone new”. I definitely plan on having these scattered around on tables and at the bars to encourage some discussion, laughs and fun! Google ’cootiecatcher’ (seriously) for templates.

I’ve also got a few other plans in the hatching, but those will have to stay secrets just a little while longer…

What do you think? Will the details impress the guests? With what little details are you planning to surprise and delight your partygoers?

I am going to use the cootiecatchers as a menu card. Super cute! I love the origami napkins too!

So cute! I love that you will be incorporating Greek traditions. I have Greek family (by marriage), and Greek weddings are so much fun! :)

Your wedding is going to be so fun! The cootiecatchers will definitely help break the ice. Maybe leaving little cards telling guests how to make their own? (Not that I want to add to your DIY projects or anything, LOL)
