Mrs. Dumpling's Picture
Mrs. Dumpling, Las Vegas Age and Occupation: 27, Finance Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Real Estate Engagement Date: March, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: August 26, 2008 Venue: Catholic church ceremony & golf course reception About Me: I grew up in the Deep South, and while most people say I have a thick southern accent, I tend to think it only comes out when I need to use it. Living in Las Vegas has definitely been an adventure and Mr. Dumpling and I are loving every minute of it! We are planning a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony and a reception with lots of DIY! We might even get Elvis to show up! I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, love The Office and can't wait to become a Mrs.!
About Mrs. Dumpling
All right—here’s the deal. I’ll just get right to it and admit defeat so everyone can see that Miss Dumpling has some big issues. Our invitations were a huge pain in the rear. I loved them and I worked a lot of hours perfecting them. Only in the end, we tossed out the actual invite card and hired a professional. What happened, you ask? To put it mildly, the Gocco kicked my butt. I think I did okay on the RSVP cards and reception cards, but when it came time to get the actual invitation Goccoed, I just couldn’t make it happen. I don’t have a picture, but they were a mess. Picture a brown piece of cardstock with blobs of pink ink and crooked wording. Don’t get me wrong—the Gocco is fun and can be very easy, but for some reason I just couldn’t make it work for me that night.

So, instead of whining (okay, there was a little pouting and whining) about it, we enlisted the help of Wedding Paper Divas to get us out of our mess. The drama: The other invitation pieces had already been printed on Paper Source Luxe (textured) cardstock, and I was worried that WPD’s cardstock wouldn’t match, not to mention the fact that there was a slim chance that they might have something that remotely matched what I had already printed.

In addition, time was not on our side. We needed them immediately in order to send them out in time for people to RSVP by the printed date. The results: The felt ecru cardstock at WPD’s was EXACTLY THE SAME as the Luxe cardstock from Paper Source (score), I found an invitation that matched our pinks and browns completely (double score), and they came to our door within a week of our order (woo-hoo!).

Here’s the finished product:

Invitations Vs Dumplings... and the Invites Win. : wedding invitations las vegas stationery 208 Invitations Vs Dumplings... and the Invites Win. : wedding invitations las vegas stationery 109

I know this is the part where I should do a cost breakdown, but A) I didn’t keep track… which is a good thing because, B) I’d probably have a mini heart attack if I did.

Listen—the Gocco is fabulous and can create some gorgeous invitations, greeting cards… anything you can think of. I was just frustrated with the holidays (holidays take a lot of work!) and I put it off for too long. Wedding Paper Divas was very helpful, and surprisingly cost effective. I highly recommend them.

What part of your DIY wedding extravaganza forced you to admit defeat and call in the professionals?

I’m also sorry the Gocco didn’t work out for you for the invites. I’m sure you will find some great projects to do with it later with the wedding planning!

We got our invites from Wedding Paper Divas too - the ones with the coral branch on them. They were affordable, the service was great, and the quality is beautiful. Best wedding money spent so far!

Dumpling, I didn’t even think of making my own invites- I am that challenged. But I have used Wedding Paper Divas (and Tiny Prints- which has some great party invites) and they are fabulous!!
PS I think the final product looks great!

The dress! There was no way I was going to sew that thing and not go crazy. ;)

Miss Dumpling, your invites look beautiful as a group! The fact that you were able to pull the different pieces together in a fabulous way is more impressive than if you had triumphed over the gocco. You rock.

So happy you found a solution to your problem :) and a beautiful one at that!
P.S. I had visions of gocco’ing my invites, but then I asked a graphic designer friend to do them for me, so props to you for attempting!
I do plan on doing some smaller projects with it though.

I so wished I had called in the professionals. It’s a sigh of strength, not of weakness, trust me!

I kind of called in professionals — I was GOING to letterpress my invitations. Then, I got scared (have I had enough practice? can I do this?).

So I enlisted the help of a letterpress shop in my hood that would print them for me, in my presence, for only $1 per card! So I get PROFESSIONAL (unlike the mess that would have been mine) letterpress invites for under $4/person. Woot!

We’re twins! At least with regard to the colors, use of the Luxe cream paper, and the disastrous Gocco-ing. I tried to print our STD’s on the Luxe cream paper with the Gocco, and it did not go well. I ended up just using our regular printer, which worked beautifully, and that’s what I’m doing for our invites too. I Gocco’ed other things, for the wedding and otherwise, that have been lovely, but I don’t even want to try the invites.

The ones from WPD are beautiful!

Miss Dumpling,
When you order invitations from WPD, do you get to choose the paper they are printed on or is that already decided for you by the company? Thanks!
