Riviera Maya Here We Come!

January 8th, 2009 @ 6:45 pm by Mrs. Champagne

I can now safely say that Champ did an excellent job with our honeymoon plans! Until about a week ago, our honeymoon location was unknown to me. Champ really wanted to plan the whole thing, and I certainly wasn’t going to say no! He’s such a perfectionist, so I knew it would be somewhere special. My only request was that I be able to sip a fruity drink on the beach and relax. Here’s where we’ll be spending two wonderful weeks:

Maroma Resort and Spa, Mayan Riviera:

On the beach of the Riviera Maya, the Maroma Resort and Spa provides luxury accommodations to visitors of the Yucatan Peninsula. The resort features 58 rooms and suites on a property near the second largest barrier reef in the world that is protected by 200 acres of jungle preserve. The Maroma’s spa offers a wide range of massages, facials, and healing therapies, and, because of its location on the reef, the resort is able to offer onsite scuba diving, snorkeling, coastal and deep-sea fishing, and sailing. Excursions from the resort include golf, horseback riding, skydiving, and tours of the wilderness, wildlife, and nearby Mayan ruins. Between the resort’s restaurant, bar, and beach bar, guests will find local flavor in both casual and fine dining atmospheres. (taken from the website)

I lovvve the beach beds! This picture was taken from Trip Advisor, where people upload their own pictures from vacations. It gives you a true idea of what the resort is like from a visitor’s perspective.

Guest rooms:
Somehow, Champ got us upgraded to one of the suites. He told me it’s because he has magical powers (I think he probably begged!).

Here’s the view from one of the rooms:

The outdoor restaurant, El Restaurante:

Now that I know where we’re going, I’m getting so excited for the trip! I realized that winter isn’t exactly the best time of year to buy a bathing suit, but yesterday when I was at Target I saw their swim wear had already been released. Saweeeet!

Target bathing suits are actually pretty good quality. I’ve had a few, and they’ve lasted just as long as my more expensive suits.
Fun, huh?

Xhilaration swim

How cute is this bathing suit cover-up? It’s sooo soft and I can’t wait to snuggle up on our beach bed in it!

Merona Dolman-Sleeve Coverup Dress $17.99

I also found some comfy dresses that can easily go from beach to dinner! I couldn’t decide on which color to buy, so I got this in both green and white.

Xhilaration Racerback Cover-up $19.99

Can you tell I’m excited?!! Most of all, I’ll be a Champ’s Mrs., and that’s the best part! :)

I’m curious, who planned or is planning your honeymoon?

Surely I can’t be the only one who is taking the backseat!

Where are you going for your honeymoon and how did you choose it?

You will love Riviera Maya- I just got back from there (we had our wedding on the beach and made it into a honeymoon!). We ventured out to Coba and Tulum (Mayan ruins), Yal-ku (snorkeling), Akumal (sea turtles), and a cenote and I HIGHLY recommend visiting any of those places if you’re looking to get off of the resort- not that it looks like you’ll be wanting to do that, it looks amazing! You will have a great time!

The place looks amazing!! I had some friends who honeymooned in the Riviera in the summer of 07 and they really enjoyed it too! Looks like you to will have an incredible time!! We chose to plan our honeymoon together since we are both too I’m a little more picky and such a perfectionist. He honestly told me during the planning process these exact words… “give me a super 8, parking lot view as long as I’m on the beach somewhere exotic.” Yea that didn’t happen, but we did stay at the Excellence (the sister of Secret Capri in the Riviera) in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. It was truly amazing! You will be happy no matter where you are just because it will such a relief to finally be married and have all of the stressful planning behind you. Have fun!! Can’t wait to see the photos!

Omg! We’re going most likely (he said this morning he’s leaning towards this one) Secrets Maroma (is that the one you’re going to?) !

And (giggle) I have the same cover up from Target in black. I actually like the green long cover up also! Very very cute!

Your honey did good Miss Champagne! You get two weeks.. Yay! :) I sure wish we could get longer for our engagi-moon (that’s where we’ll be getting engaged btw) but for that we can only fit in 3 days with both our work schedules. :(

If we love it we might go back for the honeymoon.

Congrats to you Miss C! I too am headed for the Riviera Maya. After looking A LOT into TripAdvisor, I picked El Dorado Seaside Suites, and now everytime someone tells me of another place I didn’t look into as much, I’m second guessing. I’m sure we’re going to have an excellent time regardless, but my tendency to think to much is gnawing more and more the closer we get (last weekend in January!) ah!

@sara: @sara:

Keep in mind sara, you can always do a honeymoon registry to help afford a nicer honeymoon than you would normally, thats what I’m doing.

@sara: He actually looked around a ton, and ended up just loving the resort. I’ll ask him if he found any great deals, but unfortunately he booked the honeymoon before the economy tanked so my bet is that he didnt:( Ms. Sushi brings up a GREAT point- you could register donations for your honeymoon! I never thought of that, but it could definitely help!

Were you at all nervous about having no input on your honeymoon location? It’s the one thing my fiance has requested to do on his own… and since I’m pretty much planning the rest… how do I say no? :) I’m still nervous though!!! How will I know what to pack? What if he forgets to do something important? (PS.. I’m getting passports ASAP! LOL!!)

I know someone who honeymooned there (not in that hotel, but in the Riviera Maya) and she LOVED it! She said it was pure paradise and she had the most relaxing time :)

@Jess: I guess I wasn’t nervous at all because he was the one that was so interested in planning things! Not to worry- if you’re planning everything else, he’ll appreciate it and listen to any requests you have for the honeymoon- at least we hope he will!! good luck :)
