Part XV: I Loved Her First

January 9th, 2009 @ 4:28 pm by Mrs. Pinot Noir

After the first course was served it was time for the father/daughter dance. For this dance I chose “I Loved Her First” by Heartland. It is a beautiful song that a father sings to his daughter on her wedding day and how he loved her first. When my dad listened to it for the first time he got a little teary eyed (rare for him) and I knew it was the perfect song.

About halfway through the song Mr. Pinot Noir and his mom joined us on the dance floor. They weren’t planning on having a dance at all but at the last minute my dad asked them if they would join us (I think he was a little nervous about dancing for that long in front of everyone).

My dad and I danced to Because You Loved Me and I bawled the entire time (I’m a big Daddy’s girl)!!!!! My hubby and his mom danced to Boyz II Men’s “Mama” and had a great time. You guys looked like you had fun too!

We are combining the dance because neither of us like to dance much or like the spotlight. We haven’t picked a song yet, though.

I always wanted to dance to “Desperado” with my Dad, but that won’t happen. He passed in May… BUT I’m still playing the song during dinner because I still think of him when I hear it…
My FI’s cousin danced to “I Loved Her First” with her Dad at her wedding and I thought the song was beautiful.

I danced to the same song- so great and it makes me teary just thinking of the words now. My dad wouldn’t listen even as we danced- he said “Do you want to see a grown man cry”. One day I’ll play the song and slideshow (pics of me and my pops only) that was going on at the same time. Great tune! My hubbs danced to an Elton John song after the father/daughter dance.

@grumpybear722: I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I think it is nice that you are still going to play the song during the reception.

That song makes me cry every time I hear it, too - even before I was engaged and even more so now. My dad and I are planning to dance to Jimmy Buffett’s Little Miss Magic (a song JB wrote about his daughter that my dad just loves) … but I need to test dance it first since it’s not really a dancing song and it might be really hard. Mr. Nice and his mom are also going to dance but we’re really having a hard time finding a good song that doesn’t sound too “creepy” and that suits their personal music preferences. More suggestions, please!

I love that song! I heard it at the Grand Ole Opry a couple summers ago with my then-boyfriend, now-fiance. Definitely going to use it for my father-daughter dance too!

I love that song! My wedding was in July and I danced with my dad to the Steven Curtis Chapman song ” Stealing Cinderella”. I still cry everytime I hear the song.

I think we might combine dances…or just have father/daughter. I have NO idea about songs yet.

we’re having separate songs but after a minute all other father/daughters can join for that song & mother/sons can join for theirs
