“Dee,” I yelled every morning from our shared bathroom, “can you please put my hair up?”
“This is the last time,” she replied, day after day. As she put my hair up, she would rub in my visible makeup lines. Without Sister Spring Roll, I would have spent many days with a bumpy, crooked ponytail and makeup lines galore.
For our wedding day, I decided it was best to hire a professional to do my hair and makeup. Although Sister SR is more than capable, I didn’t want to take time away from getting herself ready. After browsing The Knot’s community boards, I found an artist that I liked and contacted her. This past Tuesday, I had my trial.

This was the inspiration for my hair:

Despite the fact that I was a pincushion for bobby pins, I really liked the way my hair turned out. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for my makeup; it was a bit too much for me. I wanted a soft, romantic look. I don’t wear a lot of makeup, so I didn’t want to be overdone and unnatural.
Although I really liked the artist, I went with my gut instinct and decided not to hire her for our wedding day. Instead, I called Sister SR. “Dee,” I said, “can you please do my hair and makeup on my wedding day?” “Yes,” she replied, “we’ll do a trial soon.”
