Mrs. Martini's Picture
Mrs. Martini, New Jersey Age and Occupation: 30, Telecom by day, Superhero by night Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Investments & Finance by day, Hip hop dancer by night Engagement Date: May 24, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: August 18, 2008 Venue: The Venetian About Me: Things that make me happy: Haribo Happy Cola gummies, TV shows on DVD, buying books although I never read them, 80’s rock ballads, ramen, and of course Mr. Martini! He is the calm, logical and number crunching finance guy. I can’t even multiply double digit numbers in my head and I am so indecisive that trying to choose between light green or slightly lighter green paper stresses me out (Wedding planning is going to be soooo much fun). We both find great joy in nabbing great seats at the movie theater for a blockbuster movie on opening weekend, and we are both absolutely crazy about snowboarding. And he loves to cook, I love to eat!
About Mrs. Martini

Oww, My Back!

January 12th, 2009 @ 8:29 am by Mrs. Martini

Hours of slicing invites while hunched over took a toll on my lower back, but I’m not complaining. I had a system going—I could have sliced and diced allll night. When I took a break after cutting the invites, directions, and accommodations, I sat back to revel in what looked like the aftermath of a tornado. There was so much paper scrap! I gathered everything together and tried to get up to grab my camera to take a picture, but soon realized that sitting Indian-style for so long made my legs numb and I almost fell over, like the time Barney Stinson ran the marathon and his legs stopped working on the subway (BTW, after 99% of you guys swore that the show How I Met Your Mother was “awesome”, I bought all three seasons. I am now not only obsessed with the show, I have to say that it’s “legendary”!) .

My legs dead, all I could do was reach over to grab my phone and I managed to take these low-resolution pictures:

I hate to throw away the scraps (I’m like a hamster with a hoarding problem), and I’ve been trying to think of ways to reuse them, whether it’s wedding related or not. But I can’t seem to think of anything. I’ve considered making confetti out of the scraps to use instead of rose petals after the ceremony, using the bigger pieces for escort cards (but I think they will be too small when folded over), or just keeping it all for scrapbooking (which means there’s going to be a lot of metallic quartz in my scrapbooks).

I know there are a lot of DIY invite makers out there, so I thought I’d ask you.

What did you guys do with all the scraps from your invites?

I am quite the hoarder, too. I promised myself I would hold onto them until the wedding was over. If I couldn’t use them by then, I didn’t need them.

Sure enough, once the wedding was over, I threw out a whole pile of skinny cardstock.

Great to hear you’re caught up on HIMYM! Wooo! :)

You could use them for bookmarks or gift tags. Just a few ideas off the top of my head! Good luck! :)

Your invitations are “legen…wait for it…dary” here girl! Can you at least recycle the scraps if you can’t reuse them? That might assuage your hamster guilt.

I really like the gift tag ideas!

You could make ornaments like GT did here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/12/10/wedding-ornament/ but it’s not quite the same because it’s just plain paper.

Maybe you could use them to decoupage a card box?

You could set them out for your guests to write you words of wisdom or use them for a wishbowl?

I was thinking about this just last night. I’m keeping them for now. If I don’t find a use for them, they’re going to get recycled.

Your invitations are gorgeous BTW :)

Totally loving the invites so far. I love the orchid line drawing - so chic and feminine!

Ah, yes… I remember the cutting… Congrats on finishing! They look great!

I struggled with what to do with my scraps. In the end, I found a way to re-use the whole sheets that had errors on them in our centerpieces (which requires a lengthy description), but the cutting scraps were recycled.

Your paper is so glittery. I’m thinking it could be pretty shredded and used as either (a) gift-packing material or in gift baskets (maybe for your BMs?) or (b) inside clear glass globes as Christmas ornaments (a la Mrs Green Tea). Or perhaps you could “scrapbook” them into your Thank You notes?

I like the idea of making it all into confetti - if your venu allows you to throw it, then I say why not?
Can you get a small heart hole punch and just punch it out while watching “How I Met Your Mother” over and over and over??

There are so many great paper mache projects that you could do with your scraps whether it be wedding related like creating your own unity candle holder.

I am sooo with you on the back pain, and YES, I kept the scraps too, ha ha! We ended up using them to write names on for a reception game we played, and I will also use some for borders or something in our scrapbook (my scraps were purple).

My mom is an art teacher so she’s always saving scraps of everything! You could make your own paper from that paper! I’m not sure what the whole process is, but you basically mix up some water and torn up scraps of paper into a pulp. Then you use plastic mesh (you can find them at any craft store) and spread lumps of pulp across and smooth as much as you like, then let dry. After they’re a fun rough texture. You could even mix in different colors of paper and have interesting patterns. Now you’ve got cool paper that you can use for all sorts of other craft projects!
