Although our flight to the Dominican Republic was long, it was (thankfully) pretty uneventful. We stepped off the plane eagerly, our eyes soaking up all the lush greenness and… uh… thatched roofs? Yup, that’s the Punta Cana airport:

We got our luggage - none of which went missing, thank goodness! - and found our tour operator’s booth where a representative directed us to a waiting bus.
We then embarked on a bumpy 45 minute ride to the Majestic Colonial Resort. I was so antsy to get to the place I had been reading and researching about for the past 10 months that it was all sort of a blur. My bridesmaid Miss P had more of her wits about her and snapped some shots.

Though I knew what to expect, I still felt sort of sad to see the contrast between the “real” Dominican Republic and the one that is more commonly portrayed on travel websites, i.e. the “tourists’” DR. I’ve got to say though, the latter was definitely an accurate depiction… the place was GORGEOUS. As the bus pulled up, I had to pinch myself a few times.

We unloaded bags and got checked in, and we were greeted by staff carrying trays of (non-alcoholic) refreshments, which was a lovely way to start off the trip.

Two of our guests who were on the same flight as us from Vancouver. The rest would trickle in over the next couple of days via various flights from all over Canada, the U.S. and overseas.
While everyone was bustling around, I sort of hovered in one spot, in a daze. Then I looked across the lobby and saw something that made my heart beat wildly. I slipped away…

… and my heart swelled as, for the very first time, I gazed upon the place where we’d get married. The Wedding Gazebo! I still couldn’t believe it was finally happening. What I had worked on so hard, and worried over so much, and dreamed about so often, was finally coming true. I sort of had a “moment” right then and there. It’s hard to explain, but it was intensely gratifying.
As we walked all over the resort, it was amazing to see the real-life versions of all the photos I’d been poring over via Facebook groups and TripAdvisor for so long.

When we went to get settled in, we found out we were in a standard room, which was beautiful, but hey - it was our wedding! Not to mention we were bringing 60 people to the resort. Mr Breezy got friendly with the wonderful managers and the next day we got upgraded to a huge suite with a separate living room. ‘Cause that’s how we roll.

The view from our suite’s amazing balcony.
And then it was time to get down to the business of planning our wedding.
What? You thought we’d done it all before we left Canada? Oh, if only it worked that way with Destination Weddings! There was still much to be done. But first, we had to go dip our toes in the ocean.

Ahhh…!
