Wedding Blog
I’m going to preface this post by saying that I’m shooting weddings for three friends this upcoming year as a free gesture, and I’d love to get some more intense, day-of practice under my belt. So if there’s anyone in the Seattle area, and potentially Vancouver, BC, that is interested in having Mrs. Milkshake follow you around pro-bono, photojournalist-style for your big day in the next few months, please let me know by making a comment here in the classifieds section. These are some photos I took purely as a guest at the end of December at my cousin’s Hawaiian wedding.
I flew to Hawaii for one night to go to my cousin’s wedding, by myself, because I couldn’t get any more time off work and my husband couldn’t get time off, period.
Before you go shaking your fingers at me, yes, he does live in Honolulu, and we’re both only children so he’s the closest thing I have to a brother. I couldn’t miss it.

Mind you we got one heck of a deal but that still doesn’t beat free :(:(:(

These are great pics! Your cousin looks a bit like Pete Wentz in some of those photos.
I wish I still lived in Seattle, or I’d make you follow me around. But I am hoping that a friend of mine in Sea-Town will be engaged any day now!!

My photogs second shooter captured some of my favorite shots because she was free to wander around and have fun the whole time instead of feeling the pressure of every moment. In fact, my mom loves second shooting more than being the primary photog because she get’s to play a little bit more.
I’m sure you have been doing this, but are you following the blogs/facebook/twitter accounts of your favorite Washington/Vancouver photogs to see if they ever write about needing a second shooter for the weekend? That’s how my photog does it a lot of time.
They are a very good looking couple.
YOu should ask people to just fly you down and put you up for a couple nights. It would be way cheaper if you are doing photog for free. I would totally fly you down if I hadn’t booked already =)

Oh my gosh you were a StillMotion bride! I just rewatched your SDE yesterday and it’s one of my favorite ever! Your venue was just beautiful, and StillMotion did a fantastic job!

i use a nikon d300…i’m about to shoot myself in the foot and get a CANON 5D mark ii……because the lenses i want are way cheaper and they have one lens that nikon doesn’t…..

Cool, a little more practice (20 weddings) and you can start charging.
oh! one of the main reasons me and my fiance can’t set a wedding date yet is because we want to pay for our entire wedding in cash, not finance it. I’ve managed to get a lot of costs down (gocco invitations, DIY cake, DIY flowers) but so far, I have NOT found a Vancouver photographer willing to negotiate on their price at all. what’s even worse is that they never have a good recommendation for me, for someone else to check with. It’s so frustrating and I find it so demoralizing They always say ‘Everyone I know charges in the same range’ - great. HELPFUL. I would gladly take you up on your offer because your shots are gorgeous, but we don’t have a date yet. But congrats on the new career, I love photography and once wanted to do it for a living.
