Or anywhere in France, for that matter!). I’m a full-time worker, part-time student, soon-to-be-step-mom, indie music lovin’, architecture and design fanatic, macaroni and cheese addict, vegetarian, Francophile, Ohio State football obsessed, wedding planning girl. I plan on DIYing my little heart out (or as much as a suitcase to Jamaica will hold).
About Mrs. Quiche

“Decorating is Like Music…

January 14th, 2009 @ 1:03 pm by Mrs. Quiche

… harmony is what we constantly strive for.” - Charlotte Moss

Our vision for our wedding hasn’t really strayed too far from our initial concept– regardless of location, we knew that we wanted to blend a casual yet preppy vibe. And now that we’ve decided to get married in Jamaica, we’re throwing in the tropical aspect as well.

Tropical + Casual + Preppy = somewhat of a mess.

Tropical & casual, yes. Casual & Preppy, yes-ish. But Tropical & Preppy? When I think “preppy” I think country club, but I’ve discovered that it doesn’t have to be that way.

Well, would you look at that! Tropical + Casual + Preppy = Perfection!

Chicago or Jamaica – I knew I wanted navy blue bridesmaid dresses. Remember, I ended up finding the perfect preppy dress from target.com (for $39!). I also love that blue and white seersucker suit for the boys, but it may be just a bit too preppy (for them, at least!). These preppy-fied duds will look beautiful with the pinks and greens of the garden and grounds of the hotel. Our flower decision is still up in the air, but no matter what, they will be bright or deep pink.

As for the casual factor, that is a given for the entire weekend. We want our wedding to be a fun celebration of love, family and friends, and a combination such as that oozes casualness in our world. No formal fussiness allowed! We want to have FUN on our wedding day (what a concept!). What we don’t want to do on our wedding day is sweat the small stuff. It will be somewhat challenging for me, as I am a worrier by nature, but hopefully our thoughtful planning leading up to the big day will eliminate much of this for me.

But again, for the most part, we’ve stuck to this same vision from the get-go.

What about you? Has your initial inspiration for your wedding remained the same, regardless of time or location?

My bridesmaids wore those exact dresses for my wedding! They are super cute in person. Only downside is that they tend to look a bit more black in photos then navy blue. Your inspiration board has a lot of the same similar sources that I used for inspiration. Love it!

@Laura B: I went and looked at some of your pictures and see what you mean! Our wedding will be outdoors…do you have any pictures of them outside that you could send me? Thanks! :)

So after seeing your board I am thinking I need one of these to help me sort of become more focused! I think it is so cute and will be preppy tropical!

Love the color palette! For us we are trying to “forget” that we are getting married in the fall. We live in South Florida and that is really the best time of year if you want an outdoor wedding, anything else and your guests will either get drenched with sweat or rain. The ceremony and reception is taking place at my parents key west style home which is painted teal and white with hot pink accents. So we really are going for more of a bright tropical theme / colors - even though we are getting married in October!

Miss Q, I don’t think I have any pictures of the girls outside. The wedding was in Florida in July so everyone tried to stay inside as much as possible. I did find some pictures that were taking inside at my house and the dresses look navy blue so maybe the darker color was partially due to the church being so dark.

I’m sorry if that wasn’t helpful. If I can be of any help I really would!

You realize this means your wedding style needs a name now–like Brangelina or Bennifer, I shall from now on refer to the quiche wedding style as Preppical! Seriously though, navy and pink together is beautiful, and will match any remotely preppy men’s attire. Delicious!

When you have a bunch of fun people in your group, it will be casual and fun no matter what. So go ahead and pull out the preppy - whenever you’re true to yourself you’re always gorgeous. (No, this message is not officially endorsed by Oprah, but it could be.) :)

I’m also having navy and shades of hot/ deep pink as my colors, and bridesmaids are wearing navy. We’re getting married overlooking a lake and I think the navy and the water will just look lovely together. I think you’re combining your preppy and tropical desires well, so one isn’t overwhelming the other. Can’t wait to see more!

My colors are Navy (dresses) with bright pink accents (super cute shoes). My florist was so excited to do bright colored arrangements I thought he was going to wet himself. I love the colors together and the contrast looks great in pictures!

I love your inspiration board!! Now I want a tropical wedding!

Our inspirations are mostly the same. But, we’ve had to step it up a notch in the “elegance” category to compete with our venue.
