My Special Ladies

January 15th, 2009 @ 4:44 pm by Mrs. Latte

Choosing the ladies to stand next to me on my big day was easy. How to ask them, however, was not. These ladies mean a lot to me and have contributed in different ways to my life, so I wanted to do something special and memorable for them. But even after hours of surfing the web, was at a complete loss for a unique idea. So, I did as I always do when I’m online and have nowhere to go (after Weddingbee, of course) and headed to www.paper-source.com.

As I clicked through their collection of Gocco inks and new rubber stamps, I found this:

l1

(paper flower kit)

I had never used a PS kit before, but after watching their tutorial video online, I was sold. And what lady doesn’t love flowers?

So I hurried over to my nearest PS and bought:

  • 1 Mini Magnolia Paper Flower Kit
  • 1 26×20 cover weight sheet in Blossom
  • 1 26×20 cover weight sheet in Strawberry
  • 1 26×20 text weight sheet in Moss
  • 1 26×20 text weight sheet in Chocolate
  • 4 XS round Kraft boxes
  • 1 16oz jar of PVA glue

For the next 3 nights, I locked myself in my room and went to work. The kit was incredibly easy to use. It included over 20 floral wires, a roll of floral tape and enough paper petals to make 12 flowers. All the petals are pre-cut, so all I had to do was punch them out of the paper. I used the pre-cut petals to make all the ivory flowers in the kit, then traced them onto my big sheets to make flowers in both Blossom and Strawberry.

I used the leaf template from the kit and traced leaves onto my Moss sheet to make leaves.

I covered the boxes in the chocolate paper, then layered on the other colors for a pretty ribbon effect. I used leftover floral wire to attach my cute little signs to the box and Voila! I was done!

(all 4 for my 4 special ladies!)

I love how multi-functional they are! They not only ask my ladies to be my special bridesmaids, but they also scream out our wedding colors! Pretty slick, huh?

Oh, perhaps I should tell you who they are! Silly me…

My maid of honor is my current roomie and my favorite gal pal, MOH S. She has the superhuman ability to know what I’m thinking without me saying a word… she just “gets” me. She is always there for me, whether it’s to hear me vent about something insignificant (but oh so important at the time!) or to support me and my crazy ideas.

BM E is another fave and knows me better than I think I know myself. Maybe that’s because we’re similar in a lot of ways. I can always go to her for honest feedback… and a good laugh.

Sister Latte is my little sister. She’s a funny one, and balances humor with grace and integrity in a very refreshing way. She is super busy studying to go to med school, and lives in a different city, but I’m excited that she’ll be close to me on my big day!

SIL H is my new sister-in-law! She’s a lot of fun and more importantly, enjoys wearing sweats as much as I do! :) I’m excited to get to know her better through the process and am hoping that we’ll have to buy her a maternity bridesmaid dress!

How did you ask your special ladies?

I haven’t asked yet, I’m in the process of making each one a scapbook. Partially old memories, with room to make more wedding related memories!

Those are awesome! I saw someone do her entire wedding party flower with a kit from Paper Source and I’ve been in love with paper flowers since. I love that you used them to ask your ladies :)

So cute! And labor-intensive, impressive. I’m doing something similar as Newport Nuptials idea… I gathered a few photos and created a photo book on ofoto (Kodak Gallery). As I created it, I wrote a little poem to correspond to each page, which I’ll write in once it arrives. I only have 3 in my bridal party, so it was not too taxing. My poems begin with “you were there at the start, when he stole my heart…” and from there, proceed to tell the story of the Maid’s relationship to both me and my fiance. I cannot wait to give it to them!

Miss Latte, your craft skills amaze me! I too bought one of these flower kits from PS long ago and attempted to make flowers for a centerpiece for our kitchen table. I got so frustrated and thought they were so difficult that I gave up at one flower. You’re look awesome!! :)
