To Veil or Not to Veil, Part 3

January 16th, 2009 @ 12:47 pm by Mrs. Crab Cake

I suppose I’ve kept y’all in suspense long enough. I continued to debate on the veil issue. I ordered swatches from several companies, looked at the tulle at my local fabric store, scoured the internet for veil tutorials, and was ridiculously frustrated with the whole thing. One night, I looked over at Mr. CC and asked his opinion. It was something like, “I don’t care, but I want to be able to flip it back.” Ok… so, that kinda meant having a blusher. Back to the drawing board.

All of this happened before Weddingbee. Y’all will remember this post about HoneyComb Veils. I fell in love with her work, and we worked together on a custom design to match my dress. I sent her pictures of my hair inspirations and my dress. She sent me some sketches to choose from and then tulle samples and bead samples. We discussed the things that were important to me, and she proceeded.

A few days ago, I received these pictures in my email.

I was ecstatic! It was gorgeous! Not at all what I had in mind when I started looking at veils, but perfect! The tulle is champagne. There are 12 clusters of beads and sequins around the cut edge. The comb is beaded. It’s long, and fingertip length on the short side.

And today, this arrived.

(it was in a really ugly priority mail box)

I was really impressed by the care that was put into the packaging.

Inside was my veil.

I’m not going to show it to you yet, for two reasons. Number one, I got it after I had been working out and I was superbly gross. And number 2, I am terrible at taking pictures of myself, and I don’t want Mr. CC to see it yet.

So, it’s not a flower, and it’s not a birdcage. I know it will drive me crazy during the reception, so I’m working on an alternate plan for that as well. I promise I’ll let you in on it soon!

Are you considering a custom veil? What details do you want added to your veil to make it your own?

It’s so beautiful! Will you show some pics of the beading detail?

I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on my veil. Especially since I won’t be wearing it long at all. So, my mom had a cathedral veil for her wedding with a shoulder length blusher. We ripped off the blusher and ta-da: we have my veil. We’re going to attach a comb to it again and I am going to hand stitch beading to the edge of it. (I’m crazy, I know). This way, no one will have a veil like mine, but also I’m taking part of my mom’s wedding and adapting it to mine.

I would love to see the beading on your veil! I’m adding lace to the bottom edge of my veil. I wanted something simple, but a little different. I’m getting a customized veil from Candi Merle of Crowning Glory Designs. I haven’t completely decided on a design yet, but she’s been sooo quick with responding. Her prices are so much better than the bridal store.

I hand beaded my veil with the extra beads from both my jewelry and my dress. I just ordered a simple cut edge veil off ebay and went to town. I wanted something with color along the edge but didn’t care for the look of ribbon so I alternated red swarovski crystals with little pearls and clear swarovski crystals. Unfortunately I forget to tell my photographer to take a picture of the detail!

I think I’m having lace from my mom’s dress and veil put onto my veil. I haven’t figured out all the details yet though. I can’t wait to see how your veil and dress all come together!

I love Honeycomb veils! Eilat is such a joy to work with! She altered my wedding dress and then made me a custom veil to match it for free!

I had a similar veil! I actually wore a flower in my hair as well! It worked perfect b/c at the reception I could take off the veil (it would have drove me batty!) and still had a cute hair piece! It can both be done! Here’s pics to see how it worked:

Just so you know you can have the best of both worlds!!
