Gifts that a Dragon Could Love

January 16th, 2009 @ 2:56 pm by Miss Snapdragon

***Mr. Dragon, I know you say you don’t read my posts, but sometimes, like Miss Dumpling, I suspect that you are totally lying to me. You don’t get to read this one!!!***

***Seriously, I will kill you!***

I have been thinking about what to give the Mister on our wedding day for a long time. The first idea was to score Chicago Bears season tickets. Mmm, yeah. Anybody who lives in Chicago is totally laughing at me because they know how fruitless of a quest that is! I don’t know if it’s easier to get NFL season tickets elsewhere in the U.S. of A., but in Chicago… good luck, sister. There is a fee to get on the waiting list, and then you have to wait - sometimes a ridiculously long time. And - oh yeah - season tickets are super expensive.

So that is NOT happening (tear). Think, think, thinkity think - I thought up a new gift that will be both meaningful and useful!

Mr. Dragon is the king of deciding he wants to do something… and then doing it. One day, he decided to learn Spanish… and so he did. He decided he wanted to learn to play guitar and be in a band… and so he did. He started playing guitar about two years ago, and now he’s pretty good. His band is about a year old. They play together for fun, and then gig every once in a while.

Mr. D is at the point where his starter guitar no longer cuts the mustard. When he first began to play, he bought a mid-range guitar that was perfectly decent. Now, however, he is ready for a higher end acoustic model. I just know this would make a wonderful and special wedding present.

I am crossing my fingers that he won’t purchase a new guitar before our wedding… so that I can buy it instead! Snapsister A is a professional musician (when she starts talking music… it’s like Greek to me!) so I am hoping she can help me pick something out. I can’t wait - I know he will love it!

I also have one other present I want to give him. For the first few months of our relationship, Mr. Dragon lived about two hours away, and I only saw him on weekends. However, we wrote each other two to five times a day over email. I think I am going to make a Blurb book with a combination of those early emails and the nicest photos of us. I’ll wait to make it until we get our engagement photos done.

Between the guitar and the Digital Love Letter (as I am calling it) Book - I think Mr. D will be SET!

What are you giving your Husband-in-Waiting? And musical ladies—do you have any guitar recs?

Speaking on behalf of the groom and knowing what I know about Mr. D, I’m sure he will love it. The fact that you thought of giving him season tickets for the Bears puts you in another level. Good job ; )

I love the guitar idea! I actually considered purchasing a set of drums for my FH… He used to play and I think he would enjoy getting back into the habit. Only problem… a real set (not the electronic pad kind) is upwards of like $5K! Wayyy too much for a wedding gift no matter how much I love him! Plus, I’d be afraid that I would chose the wrong kind and he’d be disappointed…. I’d prefer him to pick them out since I know nothing about drums. I then thought about how it might annoy our neighbors (we live in a townhouse) or even me…. so maybe the electronic kind equipped with headphones are the way to go.

I got my husband a guitar as wedding gift too! His dad helped me pick it out, and we ended up getting the same model Martin his dad has, but the 2008 one, since that was the year we got married. Good luck - I’m sure he’ll love it!

Man, I know my husband would have thought that was the best wedding gift ever. He’s been pining after most of the Taylor 800 series for a LONG time. I better not tell him about this post, my watch gift won’t seem as nice anymore:)

This is such a lovely present. Perhaps you can even get the guitar engraved (a small brass plate or something) with your wedding date! Mr. HC got me a baby Taylor guitar one Valentines Day.

What a great gift; I have been racking my brain thinking of gifts for the mister, but have come up with nothing yet.

Great idea w/ the gee-tar! Um getting tickets to ONE Bears game is ridiculously rough, but…GO BEARS! My FI is getting cufflinks (VERY original I know, but it’s sort of an inside joke.) Since we had a largely E-mail/IM-based relationship @ first, I was going to do the “digital book” too if time allows!

I plan to get my FI a Guitar as well! (a Gibson J45 to be exact) I was worried he would buy it before the wedding so I heavily encouraged him to buy a new computer so he wouldn’t have the extra money }:P He’s also a Bears and Cubs fan. Go Chicago!

for acoustic guitars - larevae - I can never spell it. but that’s pretty much how it sounds. They’re made up here in Canada, and a friend of ours used to work in the factory, so I can attest to the quality - they’re also well known. My fiance owns several guitars, including a higher end electric les paul, a fun gretch, and a PRS. His acoustics are not as nice as his electrics, and if we could justify it right now, he would buy a larevae (again, sp.. maybe the guitar teacher can help on that) as his top pic. and he’s spent a LOT of time in music stores. used to play in a band for a living :)

I had been planning on getting my FI engraved nice dog tags. When we first got serious, he went to Belmont Army and Navy (Chicagoans will know it) and got cheap dog tags engraved with the date we met, the date of our first date, and a line from the first song he ever wrote me. He wears them every day, and I thought it might be nice to upgrade them. But the guitar is such a good idea! MY FI has been in the market for a new acoustic for a long time–he’s a professional musician but plays bass in his current (and somewhat successful) band, so most of his dollars go to bass stuff. I also gave him a blurb book of our email communication for our 1st anniversary, and he still loves it 3 plus years later.
