About Mrs. Champagne

My veil gives me horns.

Exhibit A (pay no attention to the unibrow- we’re focusing on the veil here, people):

Sad, right?

Exhibit B: the side horn

I’ve been in love with this Mantilla veil since I first saw it, so when my FMIL offered to buy it for me as a gift, I was stoked! We both searched online, made some calls, and we were able to find something that matches the lace on my dress perfectly!

Erica Koesler Veil Style 677-74

The issue I’m having is not because of the veil itself- it’s because of the way I want to wear the veil, which is a bit more forward than it’s designed to be worn. I want the lace to come across my hair in the front, rather than hang down my back when I walk down the aisle.

So with only a month left to the wedding, what do I do? Should I risk altering the veil or just wear it farther back on my head? It can’t be too difficult to just remove some of the lace along the comb, but I’m worried it won’t look right. Help, hive!

Can you just take the veil off the comb and either reposition it or leave it off and hold the veil onto your head with bobby pins?

My mantilla came with a comb that was stitched on in such a way that it could be removed if you wanted to wear it differently.

I wouldn’t touch the lace at all, but you should be able to easily remove the comb.

Good luck!

First of all, that first picture is adorable!!!

It’s all about the placement. I would have someone come over and try different locations while you sit in front of a mirror. Or even better, if you have a regular hairstylist in town (I know you are getting your wedding day hair in CO) take it in to him or her when they have a few minutes and see if they can try a few different places and get it to work. If they can, then I would be assured that your other hairstylist will be ok with it.

I say you have someone stitch it on your wedding day. Two small tacks would do it, and with the right thread, it wouldn’t be noticable.

@Miss Taffy: so I tried with a few different placements and it seems like the only one that doesnt do the horns is really far back on my head and you wont be able to see the lace.. you sew- do you think it’s hard to do?!

Can you just pin it with something clear?

I’m going to be the class-less poster who suggests double-sided tape. Endlessly repositionable, no long-term damage, and it’s clear.

spray paint your bobby pins to match the veil and hide them in your hair. Most people never hide their bobby-pins, which I dont understand because they are ugly, but try it first before you give up.
BTW, you are gorgeous!

this sounds pretty random, but would it help if you ironed out the horns?? may help the lace sit flat on yr head :)

If all the great ideas do not work, how about creating a pleat (1-3 per horn) where the horns are so it lays flat. If you look at the birdcage veils, they all have these pleats near the comb..why not extend it to the edge and if the edge seperates, use clear sewing threat to place a few hidden knots in the lace?

I would cut two darts where the lace is, and sew it together, so it forms a cap around the front of your head!

You are too cute. Let me just say that there’s nothing wrong with the devil horns + veil combo (evidence: my bachelorette party shots). But I assume you were looking for a more angelic look on your wedding day, in which case I’d echo the advice to do two quick stitches with white or clear thread.

I have no advice for you. Sorry! I just wanted to say that the first picture of you made me laugh. You are too cute! I think you could start a trend with the horns. They kind of look like kitty ears. Good luck with figuring out the solution.

My friend had a mantilla that sat on her head how you want it to. But it was not flat she had it pleated so it had a little tiny bit of height but it looked so pretty and the lace was all the way in the front and the was not far back on her head. It is possible, I think her veil was toni federici, maybe they have pics of it on his website. Good luck!

Play with the pinning/comb. Mine did the same thing, but I eventually got it to work. It also helps to try different placements on your head.

Sorry I’m so late to reply back! Yes, you can fold it into a dart or pleat and sew it, but the top will not be as even. Could you take it into a seamstress for a consultation and a quote? It shouldn’t be too much work for them since it is all at the top.

sorry, no advice over here — I’m horrible at sewing or anything that has to do with needles + fabric. But, I had to comment to say that you are absolutely gorgeous so even if you decided to wear the horn-y veil (ha!), you’ll still knock everyone dead :-D
