The Honeymoon That Never Happened

January 16th, 2009 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Candy Corn

Hello hive! I’d like to apologize for the lack of post-wedding beecaps on my end. I’ve been so stressed since the wedding ended; I haven’t found the time to get back in the swing of things. I’m still job hunting, while Mr. Candy Corn is in school full time until he graduates in May. You may recall that we had planned on doing a double honeymoon with our friends to Italy, which we were super excited about. Now, it seems, we probably won’t get to have a honeymoon at all, at least not for a few years (and can you really even call it a “honeymoon” at that point?). The savings we have from our wedding gifts seems to be trickling out of our account to help pay for bills and crazy health issues our pets have been having (who knew chinchilla teeth could grow into their eye sockets!?). I suppose we could always try to save up for a mini-moon, but we’d much rather just keep saving over time for a vacation overseas, since I’ve never been outside of the country apart from a brief trip to Canada.

In an effort to avoid seeming too grim, I’d like to provide you with a grainy, zoomed-in photo from our wedding, in which I was making my “holy shazbot, I’m about to get married!” face.

Note my totally chillaxed dad, who isn’t even phased by my odd quirks anymore. And yes, I really am that pale.

Have any other brides out there had to put the honeymoon off after the wedding? I know it’s common for married couples to want to save up for their mortgage, and then do the honeymoon after, but us lame arses don’t even have that excuse.

Oh Candy Corn - you are hysterical! I love your dress! My FI and I are also taking our honeymoon well after the wedding - on our 1st year anniversary.

You can call it a honeymoon anytime! We are finally getting around to ours 7 months after the wedding. We knew we had to wait at least a few months, mostly because there was so much going on right after the wedding (new jobs, moving, houses to sell, DH’s son going off to college) that it would have been way too hectic. Why go if you’re going to spend half your time worrying about all the stuff you really should be doing? Once we made the decision to put it off at all, we decided we might as well figure out what we really wanted to do, where we wanted to go, and what was the best time of year for that. So even though we were married in July, we’re spending 10 days in Aspen in February for our honeymoon. We’re really looking forward to it!

First you’re adorable. Second, you gotta do what you gotta do. You can take your honeymoon anytime and call it that anytime too! Right now we’re on schedule for our HM in the fall, barring any financial disasters. But FH works in finance so really every day he still has a job is a bonus in our book!

Candy Corn- I can’t wait to see your recaps and hopefully a job will find you soon, and the money will be rolling in. And of course, call it a honeymoon, hopefully you’ll get some special treatment!!

I also believe you can call it a honeymoon anytime :)
Mrs CC - I’m so excited to see you back, I’ve missed your posts. Hopefully a job will come your way soon, and it will be the perfect job and that is why you’ve had to wait :) You’re in my prayers.

I love that picture!!!! You are too cute.
We are definitely waiting to honeymoon. We just booked a three night stay in a hotel a few hours away, just so we can relax a bit directly after, but the actual honeymoon will have to wait, probably until I get a job! ;)

We are waiting 9 months so that we are in the low season for touring Europe. Its not that uncommon to wait a while for the honeymoon. Either way you get a killer vacation out of it. ;)

I LOVE that picture! It’s so funny and SO cute!
My FI and I are taking vacation in early August (camping in Maine! WOOHOO!!!!) and probably won’t have a honeymoon. My FI promised to take me to Glacier National Park for our Honeymoon but that won’t happen for awhile. I’m thinking maybe we’ll take a ski/snowboarding weekend next winter.
I agree with AliCherri1 that you can call it a honeymoon anytime! :D

Ha ha! Candy Corn you are hilarious! And even if you guys take your honeymoon ten years from now, hopefully sooner than that, it will still be your honeymoon!

My FI is also in school and we will be waiting until his semester is over to have our Honeymoon… that way he doesn’t have to worry about missing class and making up work. It will also be a nice break for him in between semesters! We will only be waiting about 2 months though. As far as waiting longer, I have a co-worker who’s been married for 5 years and just took a vacation to Hawaii with his wife to celebrate their anniversay and get the Honeymoon they never had! :) Its never too late….

I agree, it’s never too late. My parents will be married 26 years this June (a week after my wedding) and they have yet to go on a honeymoon. They have always had it tight financially and found it a priority to provide for us kids (once we arrived, that is). However, I know my dad is planning on taking my mom to Hawaii someday. Hopefully you two will enjoy your trip much sooner than your 26th anniversary!

No immediate honeymoon for us… We took a pre-wedding vacation to S. America and… surprise! now have a baby on the way (which is why you should take your honeymoon AFTER getting married).

We are planning to go on a big old European honeymoon when the baby hits 5 months… so in a little over a year.

But, Mrs. Corn, you totally have an excuse! What’s the point in driving yourself into the poor house for a little vacation?

A friend’s parents kept putting it off and putting it off…when they finally went, they’d been married 30 years. And you know what? It was still awesome.

Yay you are back! I’m dying for your recaps. And every time I see your dress, it reminds me that a short, adorable dress, is still perfect for a fancy indoor wedding.

Mrs. Candy Corn, I heart your goofy faces! I do the exact same thing, and you’d think after all these years, my family would be used to it. Nope - my Mom still gets annoyed when I won’t be “serious” for a picture. (”This IS my serious, Mom!”). I hope my future wedding pictures capture the real ‘me’ like yours did ;)

That photo is adorable! We are not having a honeymoon (*sigh* ) because FI has decided he wants to go to school full time and not work rather than work full time and go to school part time. This means fewer years in school, but no money for a honeymoon. But, since we are getting married out of state, we might take a couple extra days (seriously, even two is pushing the budget) and be tourists.

What a wonderful pic! Your poor baby! I have two chinchillas: boy Nibbles, and girl Pumpkin Doodle Junebug. (Got more creative the second time around and she is just so darn cute) But they can def be expensive… Nibbles’ $400 “cast” was basically a piece of tape when he broke his tine little leg a few years back. Anywho good luck with the honeymoon, I’m sure whenever the time is right, it will still be so special!

You two should take a glamorous, fun filled vacation to lovely Toronto! It’s lonely up here! haha

I’m really hoping your job situation turns around real soon. I am also dreading looking for work upon my return to Philly.

Good luck with everything sweetie! Don’t be a stranger!

PS- I can totally relate to expensive pet ailments. My dog got a hold of a tube of eyelash glue a few months back and I now owe the vet my first born child.

Someday you are going to have an amazing, sexy, indulgent honeymoon and post about it and we are all going to be soooo jealous that we were silly and spent our time on our honeymoons recovering from wedding craziness!

Yep, we got married in June, bought tickets for a November trip to South Africa, then canceled the trip once the economy took a dive and my hours were cut in half at work :(

Hoping to take an international trip sometime in the next year or two :)
