Photoshop Actions

January 19th, 2009 @ 5:11 pm by Mrs. Bee

I’ve received a lot of questions about what type of camera/lens I use, so I thought I’d share my secret to great pictures! :)

I have to admit that I’m a total poser when it comes to photography. Anyone can take nice pictures! And here’s how…

My camera: Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1 MP DSLR

My lenses: Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM

Mrs. Flamingo blogged about Totally Rad Actions last year because she was editing her own wedding pictures. Actions are a series of saved Photoshop commands that you can apply to your pictures with one click. I purchased the Totally Rad Action Set that day and was immediately hooked.

Now I use Itty Bitty Actions, Kubota Image Tools, and Boutwell’s Totally Rad Actions on almost all my pictures! The aforementioned companies sell various actions that they’ve created — they’re all a bit different, but they’re all great. (I’d probably start with the Totally Rad.)

Let me show you an example of what an action can do. Here are some pictures I took at brunch this past weekend.  The before pictures are on the left, and after pictures are on the right after I adjusted the curves and applied a “Warm and Intensify” Itty Bitty Action.

Wow what a difference!

Most wedding photographers use actions all the time too, so I don’t feel too bad.

I have an ok eye, but I’m a total novice when it comes to photography and Photoshop. I really want to get good, so I’m gonna bug some of the Weddingbee PROS to teach me one day. winky01

Hope this helps give your pictures that little extra oomph!

I invested the same camera and got the EF Canon 50 mm and used most of my editing software called adobe photoshop. I’m pretty much glue to photoshop when it comes to editing pics, hopefully I’ll look into that program you mentioned.

You should join flickr group for canon dslr group

A lot of great tips there.

Try downloading the free set available from pioneer woman photography http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/2008/12/pioneer-woman-action-set-2-yahoo-yippety/ . Legend has it that Boutwell (of Totally Rad Actions Fame) helped create ‘em.

It’ll be a great start, and free is always good.

Or you could have one of us wedding pros help you out a bit ;-) http://www.michaelwarf.com
