OK, I Give Up

January 20th, 2009 @ 2:21 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

Remember the sash that I crafted for myself? The one with the single white flower, in all its simplicity?

OK, I Give Up : wedding wedding dress Wedding0431 wedding043

Yeah… that one.

Well I was completely happy with that sash. Until I saw this:

Dear Vera Wang,

You frustrate me. I’m happy with what I have, until I see your beautiful creations. You tease and cajole, and then rip it out from under me with your hefty price tags.

I still love you though.

Sincerely,
Miss Powder Puff

Once I saw this abso-friggin-lutely GORGEOUS belt, I knew it had to be mine. So I turned to the wonders of Etsy.

On the Etsy website, there’s a fabulous Alchemy option. Under this page, you can post requests for things you want, and the wonderful people at Etsy will bid for the option to make it for you. Glorious!

Since this belt is obviously out of my league, I found a wonderful, creative woman who is going to craft me something similar, but completely unique and creative for my dress. I can’t wait to see the finished result.

Did you outsource any wedding projects that you couldn’t complete yourself?

Absolutely! I DIY’d a lot of things, but I definitely left it to Etsy for my jewelry. Tiny things in my fingers are too much for me and my impatience. :) Can’t wait to see how your sash turns out!

I KNOW - As soon as I finish something… I have to quit looking because (usually immediately) I find something I like 800 times better. The Vera Wang inspiration is beautiful!

Seriously ditto! I’ll design something and think it is awesome and then I’ll turn around and see something 800 times (Miss SD it sounded like a good number) and think - DANG why didn’t I think of that.

I tried on one of those Vera belts. Thankfully, it didn’t flatter me, as it sort of hid my waist. I *know* the attraction, though!

Mrs. Corn saved me with her DIY rescue! I knew I wanted to make my own invites…I just got to nervous to do it myself! She was an awesome helper!

I’m with Miss Snapdragon…I have to shield myself lest I get totally jealous. Etsy is a great place to go because there are so many price ranges for similar objects, you really can shop from the bottom to the top in one place, and know that either way you’re supporting someone else’s DIY skills :-) Luuuuuv it!
Have you ever heard the saying “Too much choice breeds dissatisfaction”??” I think I get it now…….

Love it!

I used Alchemy for a few wedding items — and loved it! You’ll be amazed at the number of responses you get! I love that you can set your own price!

um..that FAIL is hysterical! (I love Fail blog!) yeah, i was gonna go w/ “flourish” by reem acra & the belt that MADE the dress was…wait for it…over $500! i ended up going with RA “heavenly,” no belt required. :) (btw, i like your little sash-you did a nice job.)

I tried that belt on with the first vera wang dress I feel in love with but couldn’t believe the price of the sash. Even the sales lady advised me to make my own and told me a shop in london where I could buy the flowers and ribbon etc. In the end I went for a totally different dress but I still love that sash….REALLY LOVE IT! can’t wait to see yours.

@Jessica: You actually can set your own price! Sometimes people will bid higher to make it for you, but you can barter with them. It’s awesome!
