And They’re Off

January 23rd, 2009 @ 2:53 pm by Mrs. Spring Roll

As I gave a sigh of relief and a wave goodbye, Mr. Spring Roll placed our invitations in the outgoing mailbox at the Post Office. And with that, they’re off; hopefully making it to their destinations within the next couple of days.

Remember when I asked for help choosing our invitation’s belly band? After reading everyone’s great advice, I decided to use the monogram band. I absolutely loved the bow, but didn’t want to run into any problems with smooshed bows and increased postage.

Thanks to reader Karen and others’ suggestions, I added a box around the monogram to make it look more like a frame.

Let’s take a look inside, shall we?

I wish Mrs. Cupcake’s post on invitations was written prior to printing our invitations; as you can see, I added the word and in ’two thousand nine’.

I’ve seen several reply cards that have a space for guests to leave messages; I love the idea and can’t wait to read the cards.

I included a card with important information (location address, wedding website, etc.), and my DIY map on the back of the card.

For those who are curious, our invitations are called Portrait of Love, from Wilton’s line of DIY invitations. The invitations come in a set of 25, and includes envelopes, pre-cut card stock, and vellum wrap.

I omitted the picture frame (which I will be using for another project), and used Wilton’s Microsoft Word templates to design the invitation layout. I then printed everything using my Canon ink-jet printer.

I love the message idea! Can I ask what wording you used to encourage guests to send messages?

The monogram on the belly band looks perfect. I’m sure that’s such a relief to get your invites in the mail.

Lovely! As soon as I saw this post, I remembered your bow vs. monogram poll and was excited to find out which one you chose. I can tell you that yes, bows are a bit of a hassle, and mine increased my per invitation cost from $0.55 (standard Canadian postage) to $1.15 each! All because that bow makes it thicker, not heavier. Postage politics, I tell ya!

Congrats on getting those out! It’s such a huge relief, I’m sure, and it’s SO exciting once you start hearing from people who received them. They look great! (And no worries about the “Two thousand and nine,” I’m not lying when I say more people want that on their invitations than the “proper” way, so my guests probably thought the “proper” way was actually wrong! Haha)

You are so artsy-craftsy–I’m very jealous. Did you print the address on the envelopes or did you use a calligrapher?
