Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
About Mrs. Perfume

… six dozen of which would be favors at the wedding.

If Laduree Shipped Internationally, I'd Get About 17 Dozen Macarons : wedding favors P11 p1

Is it cliche to love Paris–that city of baguettes, bicycles, and berets; that city of the most iconic of all radio towers… of gauzy dreams of strolls in le parc? Do people who make the pronouncement of lurving it remind you of that lonely middle-aged woman in the 14th arrondissement-story of Paris, Je T’aime? Maybe? Just a little?

Having said that (and at the risk of sounding totally banal) I secretly love certain Parisian experiences… shhhhh.

Like the Laduree tea room tucked away in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Pres district. Those lovely little macarons (not to be confused with coconut macaroons) in the heavenliest of flavors–to include rose petal, salted butter caramel, and pistachio–along with the glorious empire decor give me goose bumps!

Even the confection-colored packaging is beautiful. I’d really love two things: a) Laduree macarons at the wedding and b) invitations inspired by this confectioner’s palette. Oh the dreams.

If you could give any favor at all for your wedding, what would you give, and what does it mean to you and your fiance?

We are having a destination wedding. We know that collecting shotglasses from your travels is something that several people like to do. We had shotglasses made up as our favors. However, we had only 72 made expecting 60 guests MAX to make the 10 hour drive to our wedding. Thanks to falling gas prices, our guest list is now at an even 100. OOPS.
Weve decided to give one to each family rather than to each guest individually to make up for it. But I think its a perfect favor and Im very grateful that my parents handed over the money for them.

As for the macaroons…they arent too difficult to make. If you had the time and the manpower, you should give it a shot! Recruit some bridemaids and mothers for help. And Im sure you can find someone on Etsy.com to make similar packaging.

We lived in Paris this summer at the Cite Universitaire which is right across the street from the park the middle aged woman is sitting in in Paris, Je T’aime. I love Paris too. I miss it a lot. We got engaged at Versailles and watched the sunset at Sacre Coure. I wish I could do something at my wedding to really bottle my love of Paris even if that was just offering real French Baguettes and their amazing desserts.

We gave family recipes from grand parents, parents, and ours, on both sides. It was really personal and people loved it.

I love love love macarons but sadly Ladurée is way overpriced and they don’t even make my favorite flavor–strawberry! For my reception we had LeNôtre macaroons and they were just as good. I’m sure you can find something state-side though!

Those are gorgeous…and probably taste as good as they look!

I once mentioned similar little beauties (some macarons or macaroons) to T, and he responded “I am not into coconut stuff.”

I gave him one and he saw it was NOT the macaroon he envisioned and he said “I can see why you like it.” He ate one and then asked me to not tell his friends how much he liked it…b/c he thought they were perfect for girly girls like me! lmao!

That pattern on their wrapper would make a nice look for an invite btw!

As pretty as Laduree is, for macarons I love me some Pierre Herme! Unfortunately, state-side I can’t find any as good as either. For favors, we’d love to give out some of Michel Chaudun’s pavés, but we may have to try our hands at it ourselves. Loving your love of Paris Miss Perfume!

Yes, it IS cliche to love all things Parisian, especially owning 40-something Edith Piaf songs, dancing to them in your bath-robe and watching Sabrina at least 3 times a year. But it’s OK, because you’re American. At least I think you are…

Just like some Parisians are obsessed with Hip Hop and graffiti… we, too can be obsessed with modern and ancient Paris, the French country-side, and of course, the modern cinematic version of Marie Antoinette.

Coconut and macarons in the same sentence, oh my! I love coconut and I love macarons, but I’ve never had a coconut macaron… mmm… Anise and Coffee also sound mouth watering… Beautiful post!

My favors are knock-off Villeroy + Boch “wave” tea-cups with matching saucers, filled with hand-made biscotti and home-roasted espresso beans. But perfectly boxed, fresh baked goods of any sort combined with a keepsake element would please most traditional brides. Combining the eternal with the ethereal/temporal ensures your wedding favor will be enjoyed and remembered.

I’m an espresso connoisseur, and I had to include that somewhere (tastefully) in my wedding. If I could I would give everyone burr grinders and fully-automatic espresso machines, but that would be a little odd!!! (I’ve also seen an episode of Platinum Weddings were Ipods were given as favors! Nice!) A general rule for favors is to give something guests can eat and throw away, but I have a small collection of wedding shot glasses at home that I use daily for my espresso, and that’s pretty special, too.

Hi Ladies!

I know where can get some of those Delicious Parisian Macaroons state side that you can order online! And they are reasonably priced…check out http://www.pistaciavera.com/
They are located in Columbus, Ohio(where I live) and I have tasted these and they are YUMMY. So Miss Perfume, you still might be able to get those little tidbits of heaven.

Haha, this is the weirdest thing ever, but I almost tried to give out favors of sweetened condensed milk in a toothpaste tube. It’s my husbands FAVORITE thing ever, and I love telling people about it. It’s definitely not something you would ever receive at another wedding. Sadly, customs did not agree with me. They didn’t really agree with me wanting to bring over Polish sausage for the wedding either.
