Mixers Gone Wild

January 26th, 2009 @ 1:21 pm by Mrs. Avocado

Has anyone else seen these?

a1

Is anyone else thinking, “Wow KitchenAid, you really missed the mark when you chose to feature grapevines over Damask.”

a2

Would you pay $600 for any of these patterns? If you could design your dream KitchenAid mixer, what would it look like?

a kitchen aid should be timeless. In my opinion those are not timeless. I don’t really know what to call them.

Mine would have a beach scene and somewhere on it would be two dolphins jump out of the water and a firetruck somewhere!

No… Blah, I like the regular ones better! Although Damask might be ok…

No offense to the insanely crafty artisans who make these, but it’s just not my cup of tea. Kitchens get cluttered enough if you actually use them - I tend to think that sleek, minimalist appliances are the most beautiful. Like I said, no offense to the artistry at all! Just a bit too tacky for me :-/
Crazy cool find though, Mrs. Avo! You neglected to say which one you’d get, though ;)

I think I would rather have a plain one myself. I agree with Miss Rye Bread, the pattern is too busy for the kitchen. They are very pretty to look at tho ;)

I think the pattern is too busy for the kitchen unless I saw something that was really understated. But, for now I like the plain colored ones.

What would you get Mrs. Avo?

Hey! Those remind me of Alton Brown’s mixer…

And here’s an interesting article from the LA Times on this whole custom KA phenom:

@Lillindy: @Miss Rye Bread: Haha, I didn’t tell you what I would get because I would get none of these. I have a slate gray texturd one and I LOVE it. It’s so pretty, sometimes I pet it and sing to it when I use it. But I’m obviously crazy.

If you were holding me at gunpoint and I was forced to choose one of the above? I’d choose the ones with the vines on it and design an Italian themed kitchen. Or maybe I’d kick you in the crotch and make you drop your gun and then run away before you made me part with my pretty pretty gray one.

hehe, makes me think of Alton Brown’s (love him!) mixer on the Food Network: http://z.about.com/d/cookingequipment/1/G/h/1/-/-/ABGearPB96961JF.jpg

Those are crazy! I’m not sure if I could have one of those patterns for years and years. I think I will get a stainless steel one.

If I had to choose/design maybe a solid color with tiny little polka dots?

@Mrs. Avocado: HAHAHAHA!!! I don’t blame you, I have the same one you do and it’s too pretty to part with!

@MMWedding: I like the polka dot idea!

@Mrs. Avocado: They make a slate grey one?!?!?!? I obviously haven’t completed my registry then! ;) I was stuck between solid white or black - Slate is always the best answer! BTW anytime you’re using your KitchenAid, I’m guessing you’re making something sweet - that’s reason enough to sing! Sugar does interesting things to a lady and her mission to bake! ;)

I’d still go for the classic solid one… although your slate grey one sounds beautimous!

I have the slate grey one too! It looks very classic. We are slowly moving (one appliance at a time) to stainless steel, so the grey will look quite at home. In the meantime, it’s gorgeous and timeless, even in my semi-horrendous blue and yellow “French country” kitchen.

Haha — what’s going on here? Is Kitchenaid Weddingbee’s latest sponsor? Three posts in the past day have all been about these mixers….

Oh well, crazy post, Avocado! Where did you find these?!

@Kissyoursuzy: Haha, I guess they are just on our minds. I found them at this new grocery store that just opened up nearby me “Market Street” I think is the name. I didn’t know everyone else was writing posts on the mixers or I probably would have held off for a few days.

I don’t think KitchenAid authorized these - I think they’re just someone being crafty. They look hand done. Not my taste but I’m guessing someone has bought them or else they wouldn’t have produced sooooo many.

I’m trying to figure out what that one in the back right corner is… I secretly kind of like the flame one, but only for the nod to Alton Brown…

I agree with the previous posters…. I’m head over heels for the colorful SOLID ones. Not so much for these…. though I might be able to get behind a polka dot movement…

wow…does the one in the upper left have windows on it!?! I’m all for color to spice (or sass) up the kitchen, but even for my electic tastes…this is TOO much!

I think they are so ugly! I can’t imagine living with an appliance for 30+ years that has grapevines all over it! I’d probably stick with one of the single color ones. Possibly with swiss dots on it.

Blasphemy! They are ruining them! Tears!

I asked for mine in butter yellow, my favorite color. I assumed that my FI would have me return it for stainless steel to match the rest of the kitchen, but it turns out that he loves that it is yellow and it is prominently displayed on our counter :) I used it at least 3x/week and every time it brings back memories of my childhood, baking with my mom, and she telling me that someday I would get to have one. Sigh. I love my kitchenaid.

Yup, give me my clean, crisp, shiny, perfect girly pink one please… those painted ones remind me of my grandmother’s tacky tablecloths!

Mrs Avocado- I don’t sing to my KA mixer, (but I do pet it) and tell it I love it. So you can scoot over on your crazy train and make room for one more :)

Haha, I’m sure those aren’t made by KitchenAid. Market Street is the grocery store headquartered in Lubbock and the one I regularly shopped at while in school had bowls and plates and mixers that were painted with Tech stuff, so I’m sure those are custom made, but yeah…YUCK!!

If I HAD to choose one of the above?? I’d get the one that looks like a woman’s butt.

Wait.

That IS a woman’s butt.

And still better than those mixers!!! BLEH!!

I think some of them are a bit much, but I actually like the flame one and the one with coral and fish…
As long as the rest of your kitchen isn’t cluttered(and you can use it without it being cluttered) and have busy decor…I don’t think that a non-solid stand mixer would be too much.

As for them being timeless…depending on the pattern they may not be but I wouldn’t call some of the solid colored ones timeless either.

I see you’ve been in Allen recently! My fiance and I giggle everytime we pass those by. At least, I presume it’s in Allen.. I’ll admit I haven’t seen the underwater or grape-themed ones. Surely this atrocity isn’t found at every Market Street location!

Having one of those in my kitchen would totally turn me off from baking. :-( Mine is a brushed silver one and super sleek, which is perfect for our aesthetic… although if I had to design one that they don’t already make, I’d make it clear polycarbonate so you could see the interior– which would be stainless, of course.

Wow. Just…wow. I’m not quite sure who would have a kitchen thats decor would compliment the flame mixer.
