Happy Chinese New Year!
This Lunar New Year is the first new year that Mr. Toucan and I are married. It means that it’s also the first year we’re giving out these, instead of receiving them:

{our custom-made red pockets display our last name phonetically translated into Chinese*}
Lai See, or red pockets, are filled with money and given to wish the recipient good luck and wishes for a prosperous new year!
Typically, these red pockets are given to the unmarried from the married, and only to people younger than the couple. Luckily for the Mister and I, we don’t have too many relatives that are younger than us!
Despite having to give money instead of receiving it, it has kind of been fun to participate in Chinese traditions from the married side!
Have any traditions changed for you since being married?
*We are quite fortunate that Mr. Toucan’s family name translates into Chinese very well! I’ve been told that it translates to “Very harmonious”.
