It’s a Good (Hair) Day

January 26th, 2009 @ 6:06 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

Remember my post from a month ago about how disappointed I was that my regular hair salon would not be able to do my wedding day hair? In the last few weeks, I’ve called around to a bunch of different places and came up empty handed. I was starting to consider taking a course on how to up-do your own hair at my local community college, but thankfully, I won’t have to!

Imagine how tickled pink I was when I got a call this week from my salon (the one that originally said they couldn’t help) and was told that they will now be able to do hair for the bridesmaids, my mom, FMIL DE, and myself! They will be opening up just for us on the day of the wedding, so we’ll have the whole place to ourselves!

The downside? The total cost of our services has to meet a minimum, which is bit more than I had anticipated. But at this point I was starting to get desperate and spending some extra cash is worth knowing that our day-of hair will be taken care of for all of the ladies in the bridal party. I’m getting my makeup done, too, which will help chip away at that minimum.

But, there is a bonus!

Since we will have the place to ourselves, the salon is willing to provide breakfast for all of us and make the getting ready part of the day into its own event.

And a second bonus is that my salon is only a couple of blocks from our ceremony and reception site. While I’m not planning on missing out on the hair-styling, breakfast-eating, fun-loving time with the girls that morning, I am somewhat relieved by knowing we are a just a minute away if something comes up or a last-minute detail needs attention.

This surprise, along with securing the wedding-day beauty vendor, has lifted some of the planning stress that is now starting to grow (we’re at 4 months to go!) .

What pleasant and unexpected surprises have you encountered during your journey to plan your big day?

Sounds like fun!

You should see if someone can bring a laptop or mini DVD player, and have some chick flicks going as you get ready. :-)

That is GREAT! I am getting married on a Sunday, and I’m worried that my salon won’t be able to do me and my girls’ hair :(

That’s awesome! Gettin’ ready with the gals will be so much fun. I guess I’m too early in the process to have to deal with the unexpected, but I’m certain it’s a comin’!

That’s great miss DE, I can just hear your sigh of relief! Our wedding is in October, and I was told by our venue last October that the renovation wouldn’t be done in time. I sent an e-mail to a different person about a month ago, went and saw it last week, and never looked back! It’s not completely done yet, but by the time our wedding roles around it’ll be beautiful again and I can’t wait to get married there!

That’s wonderful!!! :)

I am with Miss Peep Toe, I need to figure this out! My hairstylist is amazing, but also 50 minutes away from our site, and she works alone. We have 8 people that need to get done up! I really want her to do my hair, but I also want all of us to get ready together. I am super stressed about this and need to make a decision soon!

To further chip away at the minimum, can you ask some close female friends or family to come to the salon and get their hair done as well? Even if they each just get a blow-dry or curling or something, that would help.
