About Mrs. Piglet

With the passing of the holidays and the arrival of 2009, we’ve begun to focus our efforts on our wedding stationery (another one of my favorites). :) I first saw the boarding pass idea on Aylee designs and fell in love immediately. What a fun idea! After scouring the internet for design ideas, I came across the amazing work of East Six designs on Style Me Pretty. Each design in their portfolio truly has the ‘wow’ factor. The ones I particularly became fond of were the corner flourish/image combinations, which served as the inspiration for our Save the Dates.

Save the Date Boarding Passes - The Design : wedding oahu save the dates 2008011 20080116-save_the_date

Draft 1 deets:

We purchased the flourish design from istockphoto (ID#: 5836792) as well as the hibiscus flower (ID#: 7830939). The fonts were downloaded from dafont.com. Although it’s probably poor design to use so many different fonts, I couldn’t decide between the three so I used them all. :) The Save the Date font is Jane Austen, our names are in BastardusSans, and the small text uses the OptimusPrinceps font.

I’m happy to report that I have a secret weapon for all our DIY projects. Meet HOJO (at least that’s what I call her). One of our college buddies could never pronounce her name, so he resorted to calling her Hojo, which I like. She’s a graphic designer and has become our resident expert for all things paper. I watched her work her magic on my Illustrator attempt. I’m a total wanna-bee when it comes to graphic design (I didn’t even connect the edges in the flourish design). Aside from that, the yellows were different, fonts weren’t aligned, the measurements were off, etc. I lack the fundamentals, and piggy is thankful Hojo is always there to come to the rescue!

They’re almost finalized. We need to do a bit more tweaking, and then we’ll be printing these bad boys with our newly purchased Gocco when Mr. Piglet returns from his business trip. Other than that, we’re very happy with the look of our design and can’t wait to show you our finished product!

I love the way the flower and flourish work together! Are swirls one of your thematic elements for the wedding?

The STD looks great! I did a STD Boarding Pass as well, and since it’s a destination wedding for all the guests, we included multiple “passes” with hotel info, flights, etc. =)

I think they look marvelous and I would disagree with the too many fonts comment. Did you design it in Photoshop?

Oh, one nit-picky comment. Do you have an “&” between the two names — I can’t really tell :-)

It is adorable! I love it and have also bookmarked two sellers on etsy as this is one of the top 5 ideas I have for STD’s. I wish I were as creative with the gocco stuff ..

Btw, I love the different fonts and the colors are great!

Those are SO cute! I’m definitely considering doing boarding pass STDs if we end up moving to HI and having our wedding there… ::sigh::

Too cute! You did a great job with the three fonts–they all have distinctive purposes so it doesn’t look overdone or crowded. Adorable!

That looks totally awesome! We’re just starting the whole “graphic art design” part of the invites - I had been bummin’ about my lack of artsy skills, but now I’m totally inspired! Yay for istockphoto! BTW good luck with the gocco supplies! yipes! If you run out of equipment, you might want to check out this place. It’s not “gocco brand”, but definitely compatible.

They look so cute! You should also check out http://www.happymenocal.com. She does great design work and could make you something really special to go along with your theme. The best part is, once she designs it, you get a full size watercolor of your save the date/invitation to have forever! My FH and I used Happy for our invitations and we are insanely obsessed with them. I feel like she could take your “boarding pass” idea and really have some neat off-shoots or suggestions.

These are just too pretty, the colours look so great, and even though there is a lot going on, you’ve still managed to keep them looking clean and fresh. Super well done!

@MagPie518: I wish I could tell ya we have a clear vision of our theme, but truth be told, we’re kind of defining it as we go. The one element we’ll be sure to include is the hibiscus for now. Oh, and that’s actually another hibiscus in between our names, but we may change it to an & instead.
@hirsche: Seriously, that’s awesome! Way to be on the ball. We’re a bit late sending these out already, so we’re trying to post as much info as possible on our website.
@msgirard: Nope! Illustrator. :)
@Miss Rye Bread: Thanks for the source for gocco supplies! Good luck with your design. :D
@JennyPrincessX: Welcome to the hive! :D
