Now Open to the Public

January 27th, 2009 @ 3:11 pm by Mrs. Latte

It’s been 3 business days since my STD post, and you know what that means… it’s finally unveiling day!!! After months of racking our brains for a unique STD idea, Mr. Latte and I finally came up with a STD postcard that we thought screamed “us”.

We took the series of pictures with a computer, then used Photoshop to design the 5×7 postcard. And, of course, it took this indecisive bride 3 days to choose between this black and white picture and its color version. I decided to go with black and white to make it look more like a classic photobooth picture. And to add a little bit of color, I threw in 2 of our 5 wedding colors.

I toyed with the idea of dusting off my trusty Gocco to make the postcards, but ultimately decided that it would be much easier to get them printed. After reading Mrs. Blush’s post, I decided to use overnightprints. Armed with an online coupon code, I quickly and easily uploaded our image and checked out. I had a little bit of a snafu with their website and ended up on the phone with their customer service for over 30 minutes… but they finally fixed the problem and our STDs arrived in no time! I am so impressed with the quality of both the print and the paper! The picture is clear, the colors are crisp and the paper is nice and thick… definitely thicker than your standard postcard!

I bought white A7 envelopes from envelopemall and printed address labels for them. I really wanted to DIY special labels, but decided to save that (and all my energy) for the actual invitations. So we were left with boring “ultra white” envelopes and (even more) boring white labels printed with black ink. Blah.

To give the envelopes the splash of color they so badly needed, I got these fun stamps at my local post office:

Ha ha, I love the little man in the green jumpsuit!

The best part??? They came to less than $1 each, postage included!

Cost Breakdown (including shipping and taxes):
1 5×7 postcard: $.17
1 A7 envelope: $.12
1 stamp: $.42

TOTAL: $.71 each!

I’ve spied that stamp for possible use on our STDs or invites! Love the bright splashes of color it brings — and a nice contrast to your slick, mod photobooth design.

Your postcards are awesome! We send STD postcards that we designed too. It was a fun little project. We used Zazzle to print them, the quality was great.
