A Modern Vintage Veil: The One-Tier Chapel Length : wedding veil Ulla Ma Source

Originally, I didn’t think I wanted to wear a veil. At one point, I was opting for a simple birdcage veil or a flower fascinator. But looking at some of the vintage photos and ideas from the swank and stylish modern vintage brides out there, I might be convinced otherwise.

Check out this bride. She is definitely modern. Her sleek Ulla-Maija dress is a throwback to 1930s Hollywood glam. Yet the unadorned high-collared sheath seems very contemporary. What makes the whole thing feel antiquey-heirloom is her veil. It’s an incredibly long shroud of fabric with the most beautiful Chantilly lace at the bottom. I am so glad to see this return to intricate detailing. But it’s a different brand of high glamour. It’s understated, delicate and of impeccable quality.

Anyhoo, when worn on top of the head (as opposed to below or just off the bun), the look is old fashion (in a good way).

Note the wide (about 12″) border. This is really beautiful and a great option if you don’t want to wear a mantilla veil (which is also super gorgeous).

Oooo, pretty! I definitely want a long veil for the ceremony, and then a change — fingertip or birdcage — for the reception.

I’m going to wear a long mantilla veil as well! Makes it look so classy and timeless.

A couple of years ago I bought a wedding dress from ebay- so 70’s vintage. I decided to not use it but it came with a belt and an awesome headband veil. If it went with my dress I would totally use it. I’m not a fan of long veils or birdcage, but a midlength one that covers most of my hair would be ideal.

I SOOOO wanted to wear my mother’s wedding veil from the 70s. It is a long mantilla-type veil. Unfortunately…I fell in love with a dress that really really didn’t work with it. Sigh…

We are thinking about having a bridal shower where everyone has to wear their veil from their wedding. I can’t wait to see all of the veils from different eras!

I’m torn on the veil thing too. I worry that if I don’t have one it won’t feel wedding-y enough . . . I know that doesn’t really make sense given the white dress, vows, and groom but the veil kind of seals the deal for me.

I love that veil, but I think birdcages are glamorous, too!

I’m personally planning on having a cathedral length veil (for our big cathedral wedding) with a pencil trim. My mom plans to monogram it with my maiden name monogram, which I think will be incredibly sentimental! It will be my last monogrammed item with my maiden name!!

I want too many veils, but I want to wear a mantilla with a blusher.

I wore my mother’s veil from 1979. It has the wide headband/hat that was stylish at the time and the edges are lined in alencon lace. It was the perfect touch for my vintage inspired Romona Keveza gown (aptly named after the amazing Grace Kelly.) When my mom wore her veil it sat right on the top of her head as was the style back then. I wore it pushed back just above my low updo.

Hopefully I’m going to wear my mother’s birdcage veil from her wedding to my stepfather. It will be sweet and sentimental, but also in keeping with my style.

ha, I love it. But at this point I’m planning on no veil. I think I’m going with the flower option.

But it’s my prerogative to change my mind! :D
