Originally, I didn’t think I wanted to wear a veil. At one point, I was opting for a simple birdcage veil or a flower fascinator. But looking at some of the vintage photos and ideas from the swank and stylish modern vintage brides out there, I might be convinced otherwise.
Check out this bride. She is definitely modern. Her sleek Ulla-Maija dress is a throwback to 1930s Hollywood glam. Yet the unadorned high-collared sheath seems very contemporary. What makes the whole thing feel antiquey-heirloom is her veil. It’s an incredibly long shroud of fabric with the most beautiful Chantilly lace at the bottom. I am so glad to see this return to intricate detailing. But it’s a different brand of high glamour. It’s understated, delicate and of impeccable quality.
Anyhoo, when worn on top of the head (as opposed to below or just off the bun), the look is old fashion (in a good way).
Note the wide (about 12″) border. This is really beautiful and a great option if you don’t want to wear a mantilla veil (which is also super gorgeous).

About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
