Bridal Shower

January 28th, 2009 @ 5:55 pm by Mrs. Dumpling

I’m going to go ahead and say it…. I had the BEST bridal shower EVER! It was perfect! Last weekend, my MOH, Mom and her friends threw me a little party to celebrate the big day. I traveled all the way to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and I was so excited to see everyone (and FINALLY get some Chick-Fil-A). They invited girls I grew up with that still live in the area that I had not seen since high school and college!

So much detail went into this shower. I have to send a big thanks to Heidi Jones, the wedding/shower planner who organized the whole thing. Heidi mainly works out of central Florida, but she was kind enough to make the 8 hour drive to Alabama to spearhead the party. If you’re in Florida and need a party planner, let me know and I’ll put you in touch with her.

First up: The Details

Please notice all the table runners, handmade by my Sister Dumpling, the co-hostess of the party. Isn’t she crafty? We do not share that level of craftiness, unfortunately.

Some of my favorite details: The pink sugar-rimmed glasses for the pink lemonade, the handmade flower vases with hydrangeas and carnations, and the favor boxes, which were made the morning of the shower by me, Mom Dumpling, Sister Dumpling, Heidi, and my mom’s BFF Hannelore. They kept our pink and brown color scheme going!

After all the guests had arrived, it was time to eat. I was starving because I was still on West Coast time…. but really, I’m usually so hungry that I can’t shovel the food in my mouth fast enough. Oink! They let me go first, since it was my party and all. :)

My mom got me the bride tiara. I figured they went to so much trouble to make this shower fabulous that I should wear the silly thing without complaining. Hee Hee.

The food was delicious! We had shrimp, artichoke crostinis, heart shaped chicken salad sandwiches, pasta salad, fruit salad, and homemade cupcakes! My hostesses are fantastic cooks!

Next, we played classic bridal shower games. The first game was a question and answer game to see how well I knew Mr. Dumpling. My sister has emailed Mr. D before the shower to ask him some random questions about our relationship. How did I do? Not that great. In fact, I totally LOST that game. It wasn’t my fault though! HIS answers were wrong. Plus, I was soooo embarrassed sitting there by myself, being the center of attention. See below. (And notice the damask table runners made by Sister Dumpling!)

One of the questions was, “Where did you guys go on your first date?” Well, the correct answer would have been “Cracker Barrel” (and don’t you laugh!), but he got it wrong, which made my answer sound incorrect. PLEASE! People should know not to ask the groom those sorts of questions. They have no idea.

The best question was the last one. “If Miss Dumpling could trade places with any celebrity for one day, who would it be?” Uhhh… he obviously does not know how shallow I am. I guessed Posh Spice, Britney Spears and Guliana DePandi before they finally gave me his answer, which was Reese Witherspoon, circa Legally Blonde. Yeah, that was true for the last 6 years, but now I have moved on. Anyway, I made myself look so stupid.

Next, we played the toilet paper/bridal gown game, where the guests had to make a wedding gown out of Charmin. So as to not embarrass myself, I made my friend Kerri participate. She’s getting married in April, so it seemed like the friendly thing to do. Her team turned her into a slutty/Madonna bride. I was a hippie/WW2 nurse bride.

After all of the games were played and everyone had full bellies from multiple cupcakes, it was time to wind down. My shower planner had a little gift for me… Thanks Heidi!

If you look closely on my purple shirt, you’ll see the pink breast cancer awareness pin. Instead of gifts, I asked guests to donate to Brides Against Breast Cancer. We raised about $150! It’s not that much, but every little bit helps, right?

I’d say this shower deserves an A+! Thank you to all my Dumpling peeps for making it so special!

Have you had a bridal shower? What kinds of games (or shenanigans) happened at yours?

None of the women in my life would even know what a table runner IS! Needless to say, I had to dial down my expectations. :p

r u from tuscaloosa? Me too! And we’re the same age, I bet we went to h.s together and never knew it

Anyway, I am in miami and go home about once a year, but my first stop for breakfast is ALWAYS chick-fil-a - their biscuits are to die for.

What a lovely, lovely shower. I never had one (the people I know are far too scattered geographically) and never feel like I missed out, but now I’m reconsidering. If only because of those cupcakes!!

i have this incredible fear that no one will throw me a bridal shower. no one thre us an engagment party, it been 8 months.

how do people know to throw you one, and to put this much effort? do you tell them or is it something people just know to do?

you are very lucky, it looks so much fun.

Everything looks so yummy, even the decor! And I’m lovin’ those “Smack that” undies. hehe. I’m also not a fan of being the center of attention; I feel you on that.

@beaninca: I had the same thoughts. My friends aren’t planners and neither are our (Mr. S & I) moms, so I really was not expecting a shower at all. I am plesently surprised that Mr. Sushi’s mom sent out invites to all the women in my family, she’s hosting it at her house. It won’t be as spectacular looking at Miss Dumling’s here (beautiful shower btw!), but the fact that I’m even having one thrown for me is exciting. :)

Very adorable! I suffer from the same fear that I won’t have a shower at all. I would be super surprised if I did! We organized our own very informal engagement party (don’t worry, it was a no gifts affair) to let our families get to know each other a little better. I know it is something that neither side would think of on their own.
