Feeding the Addiction on Wedding Day

January 30th, 2009 @ 6:04 pm by Mrs. Latte

Hi, my name is Miss Latte and I have an addiction. It’s the first thing I use in the morning and the last thing I do before going to bed at night. I can’t leave home without it, but just in case I do, I leave stashes of it in random places: in my car, top drawer of my work desk, even in the side pocket of my gym bag.

And it’s no secret. For my birthday last year, instead of a cute bag or sweater, people got me what I really wanted. Yup, I got 5 more to add to my stash.

What is this addictive substance, you ask? It’s this:

OK, so I was being overly dramatic. It’s not illegal or incredibly hazardous to my health, but it might as well be; it’s some powerful stuff. Now this is not your average Chapstick or lip balm. It’s like Chapstick on steroids… it’s got it all. It’s shiny and smooth and gives you that “just glossed” look. It has just the right amount of that minty tingling feeling that every good lip product needs. And it has peppermint oil infused in it so it smells great and leaves your breath minty fresh. Yes, I’ve tried it… it tastes pretty good, too. ;)

And it’s ultra portable. It’s long and thin and fits nicely into a small purse or pocket… so no one has to know about the addiction.

Here’s the problem. My wedding gown doesn’t have pockets. And I surely cannot (will not!) be carrying my purse around with me all day. I will admit that I seriously considered gowns like this Anne Barge simply because it had pockets that would hold my addiction quite nicely (and the green doesn’t show through the dress… I tried it).

And I’ve also thought about investing in one of these babies from J.Crew to carry my addiction…but again, I don’t want to be carrying something around all day. It IS to die for though…

But I have a pocket-less dress, no cute purse, and no solution to my problem. What is your “addiction” and how will you feed it on your wedding day?

Easy solution: make Mr. Latte carry it in his pocket for you! My FI is totally addicted to Burt’s Beeswax lip balm–but it has to be the original kind, lol.

Can’t you just shove the tube down the front of your dress?! Or get a bridesmaid to carry it … that’s what they’re for, right?

I hear you though … I have incredibly dry lips, and hate it. I’m addicted to Carmex - and it’s getting worryingly difficult to find the sticks (no pots, tubes, or cherry flavoured for me please!)

Ohhh I am SO addicted to this too. I legit wear it all the time, crave it when I don’t have it, etc. I have the pint tinted one… I’m hoping that I can get away with it on the big day!

My only complaint? It attracts sweater and other fuzz like nothing else.

I can’t wait to try this stuff. It sounds great!! Also I think you should strap it to your hip like a flask! You’ll have it whenever you need it. ;)

I’m totally addicted to Rosebud Salve.. and it’s definitely not as portable as your tube, since it comes in a tin. I agree with what others have said that you should have Mr. Latte or a bridesmaid carry it in a pocket or purse.

I think you should diy a garter with a pocket to safely stash your “addiction”. ;)

Piglet - everyone seems addicted this! I may have to pick up a tube…

Helloooo! Chapstick is the whole reason I bought a wedding-day purse in the first place. Which my sister (MOH) will carry around for me. Oh, the lengths addicts will go! :)

Ooooo, I love C.O. Bigelow. I worked at a Bath and Body Works that sold the stuff right before grad school.

Um…either enlist the mister, or have your BMs help. (I forget, have your found dresses for them yet? If not, find ones with POCKETS!)

@Indie B: Exactly what I was going to suggest :)
@Miss Powder Puff: I am also obsessed with chapstick and will have my sister/MOH carry around my purse w/ chapstick ;-)

I’m all for storing it in cleavage! In fact, it reminds me of the Breakfast Club. :)

I would say put it in your garter or make a pocket like either Mrs. Cherry Pie or Mrs. Shortcake did…. I might be wrong but I think one of them did something similar to that

Ohhh, so addicted to burt’s bees! Mr. Taffy has the same addiction, so I am making him put a tube in his Tuxedo somewhere. Maybe Mr. Latte can hold it for you in his pocket?

@Indie B: Oh right…Mr. Latte will be around that day too! ;)
@AlmostMrsG: YES! It’s like a magnet for anything linty. I have to clean the top off daily.
@I3cheese: HAHA! If I had a poofy, A-line gown, I’d definitely do that!
@ggsb: Another great suggestion! It would make for an awesome picture though…bride lifting up her dress to get to her chapstick. ;)
@MagPie518: We’re currently looking at bm dresses and found some that we love with pockets!!! I’m trying to steer them towards the pocket ones but they don’t know the real reason why…shhhh…

Umm - duh! That’s why you’re getting married isn’t it? So you have someone to hold things for you in their pockets when you don’t want to carry a purse!

:)

Give one to a bridesmaid and one to Mr. Latte — or you could ask your officant to hold one?

I don’t have an addiction to chapstick or any beauty products. But I do have an item that I will need “just incase”, which is my asthma inhaler. I wasn’t thinking of a small cute purse…but maybe now I should consider! My asthma isn’t that bad…but maybe have all the excitement and dancing…I think I should have it “just incase”!

I tuck things in my cleavage. I did it on the wedding day as well. But I’m “blessed” in that area as they like to say. Usually I think it’s kind of a curse, but what can you do?

cleavage works, or you could hide one in the bouquet…or if you’re doing an updo, have the hairdresser hide one in there ;)

or just stash a few on family members and people in the wedding party.

you could totally sew a tiny pocket in your cleavage and no one would be the wiser!

and yes….that stuff is AMAZING!

have your MOH (who will probably be with you until your first look moment) stash it for you in the AM and then have her transfer it to your FI (who should keep it in his pants pocket, not his jacket pocket because that will come off as the night wears on). or give one each to each of them, and you’ll never be without it.

I too have a chapstick addiction, although my poison is likely Carmex. Nasty stuff but oh so good to the lips. Mr. CC hates it. I suppose he’ll have to carry mine!

i can’t live w/o chapstick either, and similarly my hand lotion. i didn’t carry a purse with my dress, but my belongings were in the bridal loft simply a flight of stairs away. honestly i forgot about any kind of dryness in all the fun but if i needed anything i could’ve gotten it myself or had MOH fetchy-fetch. otherwise i think i would’ve had da hubs or MOH carry it for me.

p.s. that jcrew clutch is indeed to die for!

Love that lip gloss! My FSIL gave me one for Christmas last year and I went out and bought 2 more this year. I also always have to have hand lotion in my bag…at my desk…in my car…it’s a problem.
Hopefully your MOH or Mr. Latte will carry it for you. :)

so funny- that c.o. bigelow salve was one of my bff’s gifts to her bridesmaids! [she worked as a product consultant during college]

also, since i was her maid of honor, she let me help pick out a clutch to carry with both her things and my things. i wasn’t bothered by this at all- in fact, i loved having a place to stash my notes for my speech and my own lipgloss!

I have the same addiction (well, mine is Blistex) and I’m already working on a game plan. I will have one in my clutch, one with my fiance, one with my mom, and one with each of my bridesmaids. I might also stash a few with some friends, just to be on the safe side. Not only am I addicted, I’m also extremely forgetful and tend to lose my little tube of magic all the time.

My addiction is clear gloss / buxom lips (bare minerals) and the liplicious lip gloss from Bath N bodyworks!

Never tried the bigelow. Might do it! We have a BBW about five miles away! Woo hoo!

I will carry a clutch. Probably hand it to my sis or bff. I recently found a compact mirror w/swarovski crystals in shape of an elephant on the front (I collect elephants..love em!) and want that little cutie in my bag too!

ooh. I love c.o. bigelow! hmm, good point! where am I going to put this? :D I can’t stuff it down my cleavage since I hardly have one. I don’t want to carry a clutch because I like my hands to be free.. so I guess I’ll give it to my FI :)

you’re right. it tastes gooood ;)

You’ve got me SOOOO Curious! I gotta run out and buy this stuff! I’ve seen it at Bath and Body Works I believe? Gotta try it! I still use good old lip smackers. All the scents remind me of childhood, when I used to leave them in my pockets and ruin all our clothes in the dryer. OH! :)

I know what you mean! I’m in love with Burt’s Bees, and how fitting, I’m on Weddingbee! Right now I’m in love with a few J Crew dresses…that have pockets! If I don’t end up going that route, I’ll probably just make one of my girls carry it for me! ;)

going to stash my burts bees in my cleavage!

luckily if that doesn’t work i had already planned to have my dress maker attach a pocket onto my dress to put in a memento from my late grandmother, .

Have your dress altered to have invisible pockets put in. Depending on the style it should be super easy. I also have an addiction, min is for the honey Burt’s Bees. No peppermint for me since it irritates my skin.

Haha I love this post. I’m so addicted to burts bees. I have a tube by my bed, in my purse, in my coat pocket, bathroom… everywhere!! Everyone knows I’m addicted so I got like 8 things of burts for christmas!! I was so excited… I call it my crack haha.

I say get your MOH to carry a tube of it and then make sure DH has one too!

I agree with many of my fellow bees- DIY a garter, or modify a purchased garter so you can keep your addiction with you. Plus it would be cute wedding pic if your Mr. or you where reaching for it!

I am addicted to “lip stuff” also, glad to know I’m not the only one. At my wedding I made sure a couple different people had my “lip stuff” on them, like my mom, husband, dad, ex. That way I always had someone close by.

@kosstobe: Last year they had a Buy 1, get 2 Free sale…I thought it was a typo at first but once I found out it was for real, I stocked up! Just an FYI…
@mse: Great idea! My MOH also has a similar addiction (hers it Softlips though) so she’ll be needing a purse anyway.
@Lauren: Same here! I go to friend’s homes and find my “lost” stashes all the time!

Oh oh oh!! I am a fellow addict! I love the minty goodness!! That stuff will knock out chapped lips in a day too!! *swoon*

Idea: Hide it in your bouquet! maybe you can make some sort of pocket on the part that you hold on the bouquet… so that it is practically unnoticeable. Something that matches the ribbon on the stems on your bouquet could work.

Sorry… on this one I am definitely an enabler. haha

I’m a BurtsBee addict. I like the Metha Lip Shine but it’s kinda sticky and contributes to the dreaded “white mouth”. *White Mouth is the small white film that develops on the entire lining of your lips.

I’m working at Bath & Body Works part time so I can have extra money for the wedding, however it is not working out that way. I spend most of my tiny paycheck buying lotion, candles, wallflower refills and scent oils.

Love that stuff! A glossier version of my addiction, Medicated mint Blistex. :O)

You could always adhere an inconspicuous little pouch to the back of your bouquet. That way, it won’t leave your hands the entire ceremony!
