Though I live in a contemporary home, with contemporary/modern furnishings, I love the juxtaposition of old and new. Like Philippe Starck’s Ghost chair. I really like whimsical, unexpected touches. And he freshens the Rococo Louis (XVI) chair with a slant on the material: polycarbonate plastic.

Where am I going with this? I’m talking about style cues, the theme (but not really theme, because too much fidelity towards a style or era can look gimmicky) for the wedding. I’m just talking about nods to different things, here and there. Color inspirations. Little touches. I want something grand, but earthy. Something weathered and (once) magnificent, but now faded to the point of waggish.

Something much like an old woman clinging to her beauty. Like antique leather books with crackled binding, like tea stained postcards, an old Paris apartment, and Marie Antoinette. I love the faded hues. I love the fallen grandeur. Think Parisian flea market or Little Edie Beale.

Every day that I search for elements for the wedding, it’s one day more confirmation that this funny, shabby, antiqued style is my cup of tea.
