I lurve feathers. They conjure up visions of Jean Harlow and old Hollywood! I really like how they can either be big, epic, and grand, or quiet and soft. They’re everywhere in the fashion ether these days. And they would work wonderfully into a vintage wedding aesthetic!

Yes, yes, I know. These feather things are a bit dramatic. And by ’dramatic’ I mean crazy over the top. But they seem to work… with these slim/drapey dresses anyway. Can you imagine those ginormous Victoria Secret-esque angel wing things… at your wedding?

Hot Springs, where we’re getting married, is a mountain resort town, and is typically 10 degrees cooler than Washington DC. And in the spring, it’s a crap shoot—it could be cool or it could be hot as Hades. Soooo, I’m seriously considering purchasing one for the reception. But of course it will be a more understated interpretation of the ones above. You can get them in full feather (a la dream angel above) or in Maribou (which looks like fur) or ostrich (which is a little more… thready).
The couture dresses here are designed by Brit, Jenny Packham. And it seems that feathers are really popular with the Brits… but not so much with Americans. Some of the shrugs are not cheap, and it’s difficult to find them in the U.S. It’s been kind of difficult to find good, but not expensive feather capelets… I’m ordering an ostrich wrap from a place in the UK called Joanlee. But stateside, Monique Lhuillier does this amazing (read: tres expensive) one….

How will you keep warm on your wedding day?
